2. Not a long enough record to grill / nail him on, I'd say. If he

were on for 20 years, they could go back and scour through his history of opinions and decisions.

I'm hoping his ass doesn't get confirmed, but I have a sinking feeling he will.

I hope Boxer, Kerry, etc. will put his feet to the fire.

4. No, only half that time.
I guess he wasn't confirmed until 2003? He's just been a lawyer other than that.

2003-present: Judge, DC Circuit Court
1993-2003: Partner, Hogan & Hartson LLP
1989-93: Principal Deputy Solicitor General
1986-89: Associate, Hogan & Hartson LLP
1982-86: Associate Counsel to the President
1981-82: Special Asst to the Attorney General
1980-81: Supreme Court of the United States, Law Clerk to Rehnquist

I have to have a lot of experience in my field to get a job, why not him?

5. There's actually no requirement that a SCOTUS nom be a judge
Or even a lawyer if I'm not mistaken.

7. You don't even have to be a judge to be on the SC.
I think a lot of folks here are getting too excited too soon.

Give the Seant a chance to question him and watch his reactions.

Because he doesn't have a long judicial background, it's difficult to know his thoughts and beliefs.

That's the way I make my judgements. I remember watching the hearings with Janice Browm. To me, she was uncomfortable with questions, deliberately vague with her answers and couldn't speak very well at all. I'm very sad that she is now sitting on the DC Circuit.

I say give this Roberts guy a chance to answer the questions.

8. Don't forget Warren
not that this guy will turn out like that. But he was a GOP governor before he was appointed Chief Justice.

He has to be one of our favorites. Not only was he liberal and made good decisions, he was able to get 9-0 decisions on tough cases like Brown. It would have been more difficult to integrate the schools had it been a 5-4 decision.

9. Alot of justices had never been judges
of course weren't most of them distinguished Americans in other ways such as William Howard Taft an ex-president? I don't know alot about this guy. He seems like a curious choice at first glance, but I will reserve judgement for now.

10. earl warren
was govenor of california before becoming the chief justice. 0 years on the bench.

sitting on a bench as a judge doesnt automatically qualify or disqualify a candidate.
