George Bush: 'The future of civilisation is at stake in this struggle'
George Bush: 'The future of civilisation is at stake in this struggle'
From a radio broadcast to the American people on the bombings in London by the President of the United States

Published: 11 July 2005

We in America know the sense of loss that our British friends feel at this moment. In this dark hour, the people of Great Britain can know that the American people stand with them.

While terrorists were killing innocent men and women in London, leaders at the G8 were discussing how free nations can combat poverty and HIV/Aids, create a cleaner environment, and improve the lives of people everywhere. The contrast could not be more vivid between the intentions and the hearts of those who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and the evil intentions and acts of those who rejoice in the death and suffering of the innocent.

On the day of the London attacks, every world leader at the G8 summit stood with Prime Minister Blair as he said: "Our determination to defend our values and our way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people."

The free world is united in its resolve: We will never yield to terrorists and murderers. In the face of such adversaries, there is only one course of action: We will continue to take the fight to the enemy, and we will fight until the enemy is defeated.

8. 7-7 must be his lucky number
it gives him something new to talk about since the 9-11 fest at Fort Bragg went down like a lead balloon.

9. Fort Bragg soldiers...
They were hoping Bu$h would give them some hope that they'd be sent home, but instead they get every indication the war will never end. I mean did Bu$h at least bring them a turkey this time, or just a wave and a "good luck not dying" on his swagger out?

10. It's ironic
but the London attacks came along at just the right time to give a boost to selling the neocons "generational war".

Even then, how many soldiers want to spend their entire career in a foreign land an ocean, a sea and a desert away?
