Durbin Caves--Repukies say it's only the beginning
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 05:39 PM by orleans
on lou dobbs--they showed dick's apology on the Senate floor.

the reporter said something like the repubs are now going to go after nancy pelosi and howard dean.

thanks for setting such a good precedent.

we stuck up for what you said, dick. we emailed & letter wrote in your defense.

too bad we're not republicans. maybe then you'd have taken our advice and stuck to your guns.

(am i being too harsh on durbin? i'm a little pissed. hey wait! let me apologize.....I'M SORRY.....I'M SORRY.....this was an unfortunate choice of words for my post.....:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: )

on edit: spell check & one more :sarcasm: I'M SORRY.

2. There was and is no reason for us to apologize...
...for anything. The Republicans plan is to do ANYTHING, to cry victim over EVERYTHING, and tell the truth about NOTHING, to keep people distracted and misinformed. Dean, please, PUNCH THESE BASTARDS OUT!

3. Instead of...
appologizing and giving them a bigger target, EVERYBODY should speak the truth and give the Republicans more targets than they can shoot at.

Hell, that's what they've been doing to us!

And some woulda had Dean apologizing for telling the truth when he ruffled some feathers.

Have you seen this commentary by Marianne Means on Dean?

43. Pelosi defended him today at a Press conference when two smarmy
"Media Whore's" asked her to apologize for Durbin and then attacked her by saying that Tom DeLay had called Pelosi and Durbin unpatriotic and criticized them for not supporting the troops.

Pelosi praised Durbin and said that this was all a campaign by Repuglicans to to change the issue from their failed policies in Iraq and that she wasn't going to let them change the issue. Rep. Henry Waxman then went on to say that the questions by the smarmy reporters were like McCarthy years where if you questioned a President's policy you were labeled as unpatriotic. I thought they both did a great job of sidetracking the reporters away from Durbin as the issue and turned it right back on them and the Repugs.

Sorry to hear that Durbin had to apolgize, but Daley is a big guy in Chicago. Disgusting that he would have attacked Durbin. :-(

6. That's disappointing.
Democrats need to remain on the attack but they should be smart about it. No more Nazi references for one. What happens is that the message gets lost in the bullshit.

The facts are indictment enough. Keep reciting them.

27. I'm sorry, but I beg to differ.
The facts are never enough. They must be packaged, advertised, sold, pushed, attached to other wrong doings, real or imagined. wrangled over, chewed and resold, over, and over, and over and over...
If the facts spoke for themselves, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Find a good candidate and I'll help you raise money.

At some point we have to face reality and accept that some of our Dem leaders are beyond rehabilitation and need to be replaced. Wishing and hoping they'll eventually see the light of day isn't going to happen.

17. What good is that?
He has no fight, no will, no courage. Issues are great, but only if you have the will to make them happen. If Durbin can't fight or learn to outmaneuver the GOP, what good is his stand on the issues?

22. Uh, his **vote** on the issues?
Durbin can easily outmanuever the GOP in this state, which is in shambles. Durbin cannot however, outmanuever Mayor Daley, who is more powerful than all of the Republicans *combined*.

Durbin is also a better senator than Obama, so by your reasoning I suppose we'd have to dump Obama too. Some Democrats seem to prefer nice rhetoric than enact liberal policy. In contrast, I am happy with the policy.

Now, if Durbin voted for something like ANWR drilling, I'd be upset.

Right now, I'm mildly annoyed that Durbin apologized because Durbin is a quality Senator. I'd hate to see this shit in campaign ads.

9. Dean has already said he's going to be in the GOP's Face
and call them on their bogus crap.

Dean was pressured to apologize by the Dainty Dems, but he did not, and the DNC Exec Committee backed up Dean. I'm sure the Dainty Dems weren't please, but the DNC Exec Committee said that Dean was elected to fight not be a wimp. Dean's a fighter and that is what we need.

Durbin should not have apologized, but I could understand in a way why he did. The Repukes and RW Media twisted his comments so that it sounded like Durbin was calling our soldiers Nazis, etc, and that is not what he meant. Dean's comments were against Repuke leaders, who took Dean's comments out of context. Only rabid Repuke voters and leaders care about those remarks.

19. I do not believe he needed to apologize but
believe it was heart felt. He deals personally with families who
have lost loved ones in Iraq and his use of the word "Nazi" was obviously haunting him. He is my senator and I am proud of him.

21. I like him a lot and had no problem with what he said
the problem is that I am sure he was sincere, but his use of the word diluted his message because it allowed the Repubs to change the message.

I think we should use it as a scalpel. IMHO we use it like a machete.

But Durbin should have stuck to his guns (again IMHO).

13. When you apologize, you show them signs of weakness
and they attack again and again and again. Does Durbin really think that Republicans will be nice to him now, or that the Republican commentariat will hesistate for a moment to remind people of his remarks in the townhall.com columns?

Democratic appeasers like Daschle, Carnahan and Cleland lose. Those who stand for something and fight, like Harkin, win.

26. agree. The VFW had this big thing going over this whole
apology--remember that furgess guy said he was calling on the 900,000 veterans in illinois to demand an apology.

i sent him (furgess) a long, long email listing everything durbin has done for the veterans--that the "president" didn't want to do--telling him i thought his comments were "reprehensible" (which is what he said about durbin's comments and that i thought he should apologize to our senator).

i sent durbin an email showing my support for him.

(what did i ever do for durbin? well, for starters, i voted for him)

i just hate to see one of our "leaders" turning into a bit of milk-toast over something that is true. i mean, come on--like we're not being forced to lay down and roll over on everything as it is--it's hard to see one of our "tough guys" cower to them.

Durbin made a mistake apologizing IMHO. It won't stop anyone who was pissed at him from being pissed, so all it does is piss off those of us who know that everything he said was true.

And Daley? He can go sit on a red hot poker for all I care, why should Durbin dance to his tune?

47. He apologized that his words were taken out of context
He didn't say US troops are Nazis, he said the practices that they are performing at guantanemo are comparable. Anybody with half a brain knows that the troops don't decide the interrogation policies, the defense department does. The problem is that many people don't have half a brain and also the mainstream media takes everything out of context.
