For those of you old enough to remember, Rosalynn Carter was skewered for having opinions -- and while she concentrated on being a spokesperson for mental health treatment, the Republicans went crazy about the so-called "Steel Magnolia." You know the drill ... she had no right to be involved in politics ... the country didn't elect her ... blah, blah, blah.

Then Nancy Reagan got the same criticism -- she was the power behind the throne, making decisions on hiring and firings in the White House -- consulting the astrologer for the timing of White House events and decisions ... blah, blah, blah.

Do I even need to bring up Hillary? While Hillary was valedictorian at Wellesley, an honors graduate of Yale Law School, and listed as one of the Top 100 lawyers in America, when she got to the White House the blanket coverage was whether she would have too much influence ... the country didn't elect her ... making decisions on hirings and firings in the White House ... the evil puppetmaster ... blah, blah, blah.

But Sweet 'Lil Laura? She makes solo trips to the Middle East and to Afghanistan ... policy trips and speeches ... and where's the criticism? What about the "Steel Magnolia" thing? What about an unelected woman having so much power? Why no blah, blah, blah? This is a woman who worked as an elementary school librarian about 25 years ago -- that's her claim to fame.

9. First ladies talk too much and need to tend to roses and domestic business
else the village ends up raising the kids, no one bakes cookies, the girls get their panties in a bunch, the men get overly hen-pecked, the ovaries take over completely, and the whole damned place goes to hell in a faux-Betsy Ross "crocheted" hand-basket..

11. No. Hubby did lots of hard work running those companies in the ground.
And he's doing lots of hard work running America in the ground, now.

And Laura, whose done such a fine job raising those two unemployed alcoholics, is a role model for the world.
