Bush blames India for high oil price

Reuters

West Point, Va, May 17: US President George Bush said India must develop an alternative to oil for its energy needs, saying surging demand for fuel in China and India contributed to the price increase.

The United States must help fast-growing China and India become more energy efficient, and reduce its dependence on foreign oil by finding alternative energy sources, Bush said on Monday.

"It's in our economic interest and our national interest to help countries like India and China become more efficient users of oil," Bush said at a Virginia processing plant that makes "biodiesel" fuel out of soybeans.

"That would help take the pressure off global oil supply, take the pressure off prices here at home," he said.
----------------------------------------------------------------
IMO,this all sounds noble BUT, Bush, ever the hypocrite, urges these countries to do what he has been totally unwilling to do for the US. efficiency??? we consume more oil per capita than any other nation nation BY FAR. You wanna talk about glutony.

I'd like to see that man open his mouth without something completely idiotic or insulting coming out of it. He can't do it. He can't.

5. Whew, thats a relief!
I was worried for a minute that it was the US consuming all the oil with our SUV's and plastics. I will sleep easier knowing it's all India and Chinas fault. God forbid us changing anything here.

7. or else what?
If China and India keep sucking up oil, what's the "president" going to do about it? The USA has 3% of the world's human population, 3% of the petrolium and uses 30% of the world's energy. Anyway you stack it, we are screwed. We are in no position to accuse anyone else of gluttony.

13. What a hoot
China and India have to wean themselves of oil, but Americans don't.

I don't know if that kind of double standard will play in Peoria, but I'd be very surprised if it's received favorably in Calcutta or Shanghai.

If we can help them, we can help ourselves, Frat Boy. We would help ourselves and them an awful lot if we liberated ourselves from ExxonMobil's set of priorities.

non-negotiable but those pesky Asians need to curb their use of our oil. The nerve of those people. They need to conserve.

The hypocrisy is endless, just endless.

"New Dehli, May 28: Prime Minister AB Vajpayee said the United States must develop an alternative to oil for its energy needs, saying surging demand for fuel in China, and in the United States, contributed to the price increase.
India must help fast-growing China, and the United States, become more energy efficient, and reduce their dependence on foreign oil by finding alternative energy sources, the Prime Minister said on Monday.
