MSNBC: Bush "worries" about "a world in which cloning becomes accepted"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7922271/

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Friday said he would veto legislation that would loose restrictions on embryonic stem cell research and expressed concern about human cloning research in South Korea. “I’m very concerned about cloning,” the president said. “I worry about a world in which cloning becomes accepted.”

White House deputy press secretary Trent Duffy said the work in South Korea amounted to human cloning for the sole purpose of scientific research. “The president is opposed to that,” Duffy said. “That represents exactly what we’re opposed to.”

A measure by Reps. Mike Castle, R-Del., and Diana DeGette, D-Colo., would lift Bush’s 2001 ban on the use of federal dollars for research using any new embryonic stem cell lines. Bush said he would veto such a measure if it reached his desk.

“I made very clear to Congress that the use of federal money, taxpayer’s money, to promote science which destroys life in order to save life — I’m against that,” Bush said. “Therefore, if the bill does that, I would veto it.”

BELOW: A worried Bush.

16. But someone might try just to see if it could be done. So I worry also.
Hey! I am worried about one of the same things as George Bush! Cool.

2. What an idjut..
Bush is the walking poster child for the need for better and more science education in the USA.

Of course, he's speaking for the millions of other idjuts that constitute his base, without heeding anyone who disagrees or knows better that stem cell research is a very good thing.

3. Not concerned about crumbling polar caps, though.
Let's all worry about this non-issue so we can pretend there is no real issue. We are so dead!

We destroy life every tit-fucking day, you stupid, ignorant ape! A half dozen stems cells is not a person.

4. Hey Shrub...Why don't you worry about all the death and
destruction in the world and the mistrust of Americans that you are creating.

Hey Shrub, why don't you worry about the environment?

Hey Shrub, why don't you worry about children (and adults) not getting the medical care they need and that it might be cut off by their hospital?

Hey Shrub, why don't you worry about the massive debt you are creating for future generations with your irresponsible budgets, warmongering, and tax cuts for the wealthy?

Hey Shrub, why don't you worry about jobs being sent overseas, the race to the bottom, and the loss of pensions and retirement plans that people have fought for and then bargained for for decades?

5. Yeah, but wouldn't it
get rid of that evil evolution that they hate so much. After all, if genes aren't allowed to mix and mutate anymore, they'll have the ultimate solution to "progress."

7. Does anyone seriously think
the little pea-brain gives any thought to anything? Jesus, he's the poster child for Freepers, for cryin' out loud, and we all know THEY haven't got the sense God give a rubber duck. The man is totally clueless; he says what KKKarl tells him to. The only way you can tell the words he says are his are if it's incredibly stupid. I just laugh at anything that comes out of his mealy mouth.

13. Reframe the word "clone"...

O.K. It's a very fine line here...but Republicans are successfully using the word "clone" instead of "stem cell research". Don't let them drip...drip...drip...that word "clone" into all media discussions...it will rally their base. Reframe. Discussions are about stem cell research...NOT cloning!

Breakthrough for UK scientists as first human embryo is cloned

JOHN VON RADOWITZ

Key points
• Newcastle scientists first in UK, second in world to clone human embryo
• South Korean scientists reveal first customised embryonic stem cells
• Research is highly controversial; fear of mavericks cloning babies remains

Key quote
"The same government that is prepared to invest millions in biotechnological research, destroying human embryos in the blind pursuit of a cure, is telling us that they haven't got the money to pay for tube feeding for the vulnerable."
- JULIA MILLINGTON, ProLife Alliance
