There's reason for condemning Laura Bush's "comedy"...
How self-righteous did the right get over Theresa Heinz-Kerry's "shove it" remarks? Oh, she was crude and uncivilized and not worthy of being a First Lady. You heard that from Limbaugh and Hannity and all the rest of the right wing noise machine.

If "shove it" is worthy of hours of indignant coverage by the right wing, then we've a right to complete outrage over Laura Bush's horse masturbation/Chippendale/Desperate Housewives jokes.

Did the jokes themselves insult me? Nope. It's the HYPOCRISY that insults me. Actually, the really bad acting and delivery insulted me, too, but as I've read, if Laura Bush rises above the charisma level of tofu then by her standards it's genius.

If hypocrisy caused rashes then we could pass an ointment tax and Republicans could get rid of the deficit within the decade.

Heinz had brought up the Chippendales? But Lynn Cheney's code name is now dollar bill?

3. double standard
They are utterly blind to the double standard they hold.

Imagine if 9/11 happened on Clinton's watch and one of Clinton's long term family friends/long term business partners was the same family that executed the attacks.

5. And a male prostitute was given a press pass
and nearly unlimited access to the White House, including close proximity to the president--especially post 9-11?

Do you think Hannity, Limbaugh, et.al. would be quiet for a moment?

6. I wasn't insulted, I was embarrassed.
I was doubly embarrassed to watch the supposedly "free press" laughing their asses off at Our Dear Laura's embarrassing "jokes."

8. Okay, so sue me.
I thought Laura's comedy was good. I thought she had MUCH better writers than the twins' awful stuff at the R convention. And, hey, if you've been paying attention to the Jeff Gannon/James Guckert story, I think the horse reference is pretty funny.....

And, yes, any time Laura rises to anything more animated than being a "lump," it's a victory for her.

What was really embarrassing to me was

(1) the journalism awards given out that night, including three -- one for someone who revised his story 67 times about the outcome of the November presidential election (too bad he didn't get it right even then.....). One for a pair who wrote about an issue of national importance -- STEROIDS IN BASEBALL!

(2) the entire scene of the dinner, including the gowns, the red carpet, and screaming fans, the sprinkling of Hollywood guests, and the smug insulated self-congratulatory fog over the entire thing.

Next to (1) and (2), the Laura jokes were highlights. Plus, the bonus was that it was X minutes we didn't have to listen to George -- she spoke in his stead.
