Reid calls Bush a loser, then apologizes
Apologizes? WTF? Bush is a loser.

LESSON IN POLITICS: Reid calls president 'loser'

By ERIN NEFF
REVIEW-JOURNAL

In the course of a discussion on filibusters and Senate rules, Washington's top Democrat gave the 60 juniors a lesson in partisan politics, particularly about the commander in chief. "The man's father is a wonderful human being," Reid said in response to a question about President Bush's policies. "I think this guy is a loser.

"I think President Bush is doing a bad job," he added to a handful of chuckles.

< snip >

After the statement was released, Reid phoned the Review-Journal to acknowledge he thought he crossed the line.

"You know the president is in Europe, probably sleeping," Reid said in an interview this afternoon. "But I called (Karl) Rove and apologized for what I said."

6. Very clever...say it...put it out there...then apologize on technicality
There is some unwritten rule that members of congress are not supposed to piss on the President when he's overseas. This was never observed for Pres. Clinton by many but it's the 'oral tradition.'

I just think Reid is priceless. He didn't apologize for "the loser" comment, he apologized for the decorum rule, "You know the president is in Europe..."

If you want to say something like, "Bush is a loser," you have some underling say it or some junior congressman. Then Reid could take the high road and say, "Well I wouldn't put it quite that way."

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan generally gets accolades for his public pronouncements. Yesterday he got a brickbat from Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), who blasted Greenspan as "one of the biggest political hacks we have here in Washington."

Edited on Fri May-06-05 07:26 PM by depakid
It seems to me that Harry Reid has been on the losing end of EVERY SINGLE ISSUE- and from the looks of it - intends to remain on the losing end of every issue.

So it's pretty shallow for guy who's either backed down or lost every single "fight" to go around calling Bush a loser- and then to apologize to Rove about it. I'm sure Bush is having a great laugh about that one.

On edit: I forgot- Reid hasn't been a loser on evey single issue. He broke ranks and ended up on the "winning" side of the bankruptcy bill.

72. And the, "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I say that out loud?"
A lot of people on the DU ask why we can't use the rethug's tactics against them... Reid just did.

In the Senate they have all this process about how they talk to each other so even in the most heated debates they have to act like gentlemen or ladies and not devolve into a bar room brawl. If you disagree with someone you are still supposed to address them as "the distinguished gentleman" or a like moniker... so publicly calling the pResident a loser - even though since he cheated it's true - is still stepping over their line of ettiquette.

But notice, he said what he said in a very public venue and after all, the pResident got the electoral votes by hook and crook, so technically most people think of him as the Pres, so it's really the American people he was apologizing to for violating Robert's Rules of Order and sinking down to the rethug level of playing nasty.

Still, I just bet he told Karl, "Well, I'm sorry your guy IS a loser... you know it, I know it. Everybody but Chimpy knows it, but I'm sorry it slipped out like it did. We gotta keep on the issues and not get into name calling." Or some such "apology" (NOT)

But he beat our asses last year. 'Beat' in the sense that he was awarded the prize (regardless of HOW it happened), not us.

Like it or not, while beating us in the vote and stealing the election (by theft) should equal 'loser', the evidence of 'stealing' the vote, or the circumstances that make that seem likely, never made it to the fore of American consciousness. Hence, The People lost the big enchilada.

That being said, he IS the kind of punk we used to, or wanted to beat up in Jr. High. Hence, he is a 'loser' in that social sense.

Even tho he wound up apologizing, just the fact he would even let that slip outta his mouth is why he is an effective party leader. he makes Tom Daschle look like a little baby who was afraid say anything. He's got balls, and I like him. He is why we will eventually find our way back to power.

58. Golly, I hope Reid lets us in on his game of the chessmasters.
Unfreakingbelievable.

What a savy political move. A stroke of genius! Call him a loser then call Rove to apologize. This is greatness in our midst! This will turn the tables on those bad guys.

They will learn not to mess with Reid...he's a diabolical master.

Meanwhile Rove just hangs up after the call and orders room service.

If you are going to apologize Reid, do it the Republican way, like another poster said....and by all means do not make it to Rove, you nitwit.

61. I guess it's true - some liberals really DON'T have a sense of humor.
<LOL> Reid was making a joke. A joke. Heard of it?

63. Okay, now I feel stupid.
I kept hearing that he apologized to Rove, stated as fact. Was he kidding? I don't have a problem with it either way, but I'd love it even more if he were kidding.

65. To me, it seems as though Reid was rubbing it in
Rove's face. It's the same tactics Rove's party has used for years.

A great move. Keep it up.

66. I agree, but was it a joke that he even called Rove? Or not?
I thought he actually did.

Either way, I think it's great. :D I didn't know much about Harry before, and he seemed so timid. But he's showing me he's anything BUT.

70. He said, "I called Rove and apologized."

If he's using the man's surname, that doesn't sound very humble to me. Actually, it sounds rather facetious.

<LOL>

62. I think it's quite funny that he apologized to Rove, and not the Chimp.
As I posted above, it points out the fact that the Chimp is created and operated by Rove.

Besides, it's like making a statement and having the judge instruct the jury to disregard it. It was already heard -- and he didn't exactly back down from the substance of it.

I like Harry more all the time!

...ridiculing others about not getting nuance?? <LOL>

69. Want to see what the murderer Bu$h has achieved

Just one example of what the illegitimate mr bu$h has achieved -- an illegal war and countless crimes against humanity

And, I will NEVER RETRACT THAT STATEMENT.

74. They turned a war hero into a LOSER...I didn't hear any apologies!
"The man's father is a wonderful human being?" Who slipped him the kool-aid? Define wonderful! OMG...give me a break! Just when I think that we've finally got it going on...

Peace.

And, so they apologize for being harsh. Not for being truthful.

EDIT: I need glasses and won't admit it to my self. Spelling.
