WSJ: Support in Senate Is Weak for Bush On Social Security
Excerpt: “While President Bush took his campaign to carve individual retirement accounts from Social Security to Galveston, Texas, a hearing in Washington made plain he lacks support where he most needs it -- in the Senate Finance Committee. Senators' comments signaled that Mr. Bush isn't likely to get the votes of moderate Senate Democrats, as he had hoped, and also is likely lose at least one Republican, Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe. . . . ‘He doesn't have the votes for carve-out personal accounts,’ financier Robert Pozen said after the hearing, where he had been a witness.”

1. Obama at a National Policy Conference yesterday suggested
...that the democrats should provide Bush, who is too proud to admit that he made a mistake, a way of gracefully withdrawing his social security privatization proposal and get back to a more sane way of dealing with the social security solvency issue. What an eloquent diplomat Obama is! He called Bush a dumb shit without ever using those words.
