DeLay to NRA: "you want your friends around, preferably armed."
Embattled DeLay rips media

Majority leader speaks before NRA

Sunday, April 17, 2005 Posted: 9:28 AM EDT (1328 GMT)

HOUSTON (AP) -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, under fire for alleged ethics violations, accused liberal Democrats and the national media of giving him a hard time in a keynote speech at the National Rifle Association's annual convention Saturday evening.

DeLay only briefly mentioned the ethics accusations, telling members of the gun-rights group that he appreciated their support.

"When a man is in trouble or in a good fight, you want to have your friends around, preferably armed. So I feel really good," the Republican from nearby Sugar Land, Texas, said.

About 2,550 NRA members paid $75 to hear DeLay's speech and dine on salad with goat cheese and sirloin steak with peppercorn cognac sauce. Many wore stickers that read: "I'm for the NRA and Tom DeLay."

Some of DeLay's Republican colleagues have suggested in recent weeks that he resign as scrutiny builds over his overseas trips, political fund raising and his association with a lobbyist who is under federal investigation. --- http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/04/17/delay.nra.ap/index.html

1. This Only Further Proves My Theory...
...that prolonged exposure to gunpower causes brain damage.

4. Is DeLay sending a signal to his 'friends' at the NRA?
Why did he go beyond simply saying calling the NRA his 'friends' with the comment about them being "armed"? Is he suggesting that it's time for violence in his defense? Or just joking around?

If this is a joke...it's a sick one.

2. Of course... it's the media's fault he did all those illegal things...
:nopity:

By the way, doesn't this sound an awful lot like the rhetoric they're using against judges? Especially this gem: "When a man is in trouble or in a good fight, you want to have your friends around, preferably armed. So I feel really good."

7. When some overly tense wingers start taking shots at people and citing
the need to help DeLay, will he deny any part of inciting violence much like the rabid anti-choice preachers did when clinic workers started getting murdered?

At what point does DeLay get busted for shouting "FIRE!" in a crowded theater? If a liberal ran around saying the shit he proudly proclaims, they would be busted for sure, probably as a terrorist advocate, thereby assuring their constitutional rights were declared forfeit.

8. Well, they did get the goat cheese from their own goats.
I won't go into what DeLay and LaPierre were doing to the goats after dinner.

11. LOL
I won't either, except that DeLay came back into the banquet hall holding a used condom and wearing a shit-eating grin.

6. Dangerous message again
Republicans seem to be obliquely advocating violence more and more and more these days......

I'm concerned that their rhetoric will inspire a group of McVeighs.

Where is the common sense wing of the Republican Party?

Where are the Republican statesmaen who will stand up and say ENOUGH! ????

...where are the Democratic Statesmen that will stand up and say ENOUGH!?

I refuse to believe that the Democratic party doesn't have the 'power' to actively oppose these madmen because they're in the minority.

And yes...this is a very dangerous message. DeLay putting 'friends' and 'armed' together is another not-so-subtle call for violence in defense of this criminal government.

10. Email your republican representatives/Senators
(if you have any) and tell them who will be held responsible when some rudolph wannabe gets a whole lot of inspiration from the upcoming hatefest in Kentucky this coming Sunday.
