Just got an email from Nick Casey Chairman, West Virginia Democratic Part
Dean is moving and a shaking......

Governor Dean wrote to you on Tuesday reporting the names of the first four states the Democratic Party will be working to grow.

One of them is mine -- I'm the chairman of the West Virginia Democrats.

I want to take a moment to talk to you about these first four: Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, and my own native West Virginia.

Each state brings different strengths, different needs, and different opportunities to the table. Each of the first four states represents a different region, and they're each at a different stage of growth. By starting with these four, we'll gain valuable experience to prepare us for the other challenges ahead -- including tough Senate races next year in three of the four.

Across the country we have a lot of different situations. In some states we're starting with the basics so that we can get competitive again. In others, we have a solid Democratic base that needs new resources to take their success to the next level. And in others, we have the opportunity to accelerate the process of a state trending blue.

The goals in each state are the same: reaching out to the grassroots and building the party from the ground up. But the best way to get there differs for each one. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Montana has different needs than Mississippi. And both have different needs than Maine. But make no mistake: Democrats are committed to winning everywhere, at every level.

The outpouring of support in the last 48 hours from Democrats like you has made it possible to get started even sooner.

Here in West Virginia, Governor Dean asked us what we need -- and now your contributions are translating directly into trained field organizers on the ground. They will be put to work immediately. The Republicans have put a lot of time and energy into West Virginia over the last few years, but we've held our own -- last year we elected a new Democratic governor, despite a Bush victory here. But the work must begin now if we're going to win in 2006 and put West Virginia back into the Democratic column in the 2008 presidential race.

Governor Dean is already on the road, working with more states. He was in Washington State this week, where the state party's skills and resources ensured that every vote was counted in the last election -- we now have a Democratic governor there. He'll be speaking this weekend at the state party convention in California, where Democrats are determined to elect a new governor soon.

Thank you for being a part of this historic effort -- this is only the beginning.

Sincerely,

Nick Casey
Chairman, West Virginia Democratic Party
