Poll question: Boxer v Clinton
It's primary day, 2008, and those are the only two names on the ballot.

Who's your pick for President?

1. I could honestly never see myself voting for Hillary...
I'm as big a proponent of holding your nose and voting for dems no matter what as you're likely to find anywhere. But her and Leiberman would be two that I don't think I could ever pull the lever for.

16. how is she must different than Bill Clinton was?
He was a "New Democrat" who co-opted GOP ideas and Hillary was, allegedly, the liberal conscience of the Clinton WH.

23. It's a gut/personal thing, admittedly....
I never doubted that Bill did what he thought was in the best interest of the country, and I feel his background of coming up as the poor son of a single parent to acheive what he did played into everything he did. I didn't always agree with him but I never doubted that he had the best interests of the country at heart.

I don't feel that way about Hillary. I don't claim to have some big checklist that takes all these specifics into account. I just do not like her.

27. It's a bit of a stretch to say that she's as bad as Lieberman.
I don't like her, but Lieberman is in a league all his own. No other Democrat goes so far out of their way to aid and abet the right wing.

2. Boxer would win the Presidential Election!.....
...Just like Gore and Kerry!

But the fascists would say: No, Jeb won. Sorry, get over it.

Then what?

To the streets?

4. Voted for Senator Boxer. I will give Senator Clinton --
-- every consideration & will acknowledge that she could surprise me big-time.

But if those are my two ballot choices in a primary, the woman who told Abu Gonzales where to stuff it gets my vote.

And she ain't doin' bad on Bolton, either.

5. No one asked me....
I voted for Clinton twice, and still defend him to the low-foreheaded cretins with whom I work. I haven't missed an election since '72, so I'm proud to say that I voted (for McGovern) and against Nixon.

Having thus established my bona fides as a liberal, America-hating Democrat, I need to ask: When and how did Hillary become a leading Democrat? I don't have anything against her, and having Bill as an advisor is certainly appealing (especially as a middle east ambassador), but she is, so far, a one-term senator.

I'm always impressed by Biden and Boxer. Kerry is still a serious, intelligent guy. Even Dodd is pretty good. On the outside, Kucinich is the only dem with the balls to say what most of us, here, believe on most issues.

My point is simply that it's a bit early for a coronation.

9. As long as the repugs have Hillary to bash, they will and the msm will
give it all the airplay they want!
That was my rant on another post!

15. I think the last laugh
will be on the media, because I think Hillary is aware of the feelings represented by the results of this poll, and I don't think she will run.

29. Hillary is running
...right now...as we mull this over.

She voted for and supports this war.

She voted for and supports the Patriot Act

She voted for and supports NoChildLeftBehind

She supports permanent bases in Iraq

She inspected the voting machines in action in CT during the summer of 2003 and pronounced them "Great."

The last time the bankruptcy bill came up, she voted for it although Bill Clinton had vetoed it. This time she was with Bill Clinton because of an operation and we will never know how she would have voted.

She fails to stand up but when those who found their backbones get our kudos, she is right there for the photo op.

Exactly what voters does Hillary bring? Women? They already vote for us. The ones that voted for bush will stay there.

Hillary will be the nominee because she wants it, but expect the map to stay the same or get worse. If for no other reason than America will not vote for bush-clinton-clinton-bush-bush-"clinton" They are ready for a change. The republican base is now larger than the Democratic base...much larger. The swing voters do not want Hillary. Sorry.

6. Hate to say it, but Boxer would lose worse than Hillary, who would lose
America isn't ready for a woman president, let alone Hillary. Barb Boxer would not have a chance against the Repug Lie Machine.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is holding.

13. I agree, as much as I like Boxer
She's too liberal to win nationally. Anyways, we need her in the Senate leadership, especially if we can retake it in 2006.

If conditions are right, Hillary is electable. She has to appeal to soccer moms and african americans, and she needs to remain moderate to do so. She can go left after she gets elected.

14. That is a puzzling notion.
The fact that the 'too liberal to win nationally' meme works so well even on DU, is merely an indication that we have to ramp up the volume on the 'too conservative to win nationally' meme.
