Barbara Boxer's call to action
sorry no link, it was in my email inbox!!

Reject John Bolton's nomination as UN Ambassador

On Monday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee began 3 days of hearings into John Bolton's nomination as America's next Ambassador to the United Nations. And as a member of the committee, I was very disturbed by what I heard.

Other than the Secretary of State and the President himself, the UN Ambassador is our country's chief diplomat. But at a time when the United States is working to repair relationships with our allies and rebuild our image around the world, John Bolton is absolutely the wrong choice for this critical job.

Tell your Senators to reject Bolton's nomination today!

After all, John Bolton has shown nothing but contempt for the United Nations throughout his entire career. He has even gone so far as to state that "there is no United Nations" and "if lost 10 stories, it wouldn't make a bit of difference."

Further, John Bolton has demonstrated a disturbing propensity to politicize the intelligence-gathering process and twist intelligence to suit his needs. In fact, recently Bolton tried to punish two intelligence analysts who disagreed with his views about Cuba's possession of biological weapons. In the aftermath of the Iraq debacle, we can't stand to promote anyone who misuses critical intelligence information.

The confirmation vote for John Bolton's nomination promises to be very close -- your individual lobbying effort could very well make the difference.

So please take 30 seconds right now to sign my petition and tell your Senators how you feel about John Bolton -- before the Foreign Relations Committee votes on Thursday.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
Your Senators

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Reject John Bolton's nomination as UN Ambassador

Dear ,

Other than the Secretary of State and the President himself, the UN Ambassador is our country's chief diplomat. But at a time when the United States is working to repair relationships with our allies and rebuild our image around the world, John Bolton is absolutely the wrong choice for this critical job.

After all, Bolton has shown nothing but contempt for the United Nations throughout his entire career.

I urge you to reject John Bolton's nomination as UN Ambassador -- and to convince your colleagues to do the same.

Sincerely,

2. Done.
Barbara Boxer is one of the few Democratic incumbents I would go out of my way for. When we needed a Senator to stand up for democracy, Boxer met the challenge... the least we can do is respond when she makes an occasional call-to-action.

John Kerrys Statement on the Bolton Nomination
11 April 2005

Ron posted a piece earlier today about Salons article Hand-to-hand combat over Bolton from Salons War Room. This morning John Kerry sent out an email announcing the ad he is running in Rhode Island asking supporters to contact Senator Chaffee. A copy of the email is available on JohnKerry.com.

Kerry also issued the following statement today regarding Boltons nomination:

John Bolton is the wrong choice to serve as America's voice at the United Nations.

Self Deleted the message b/c it a dig at Kerry. (I had meant to delete it earlier, but my browser crashed... sorry Kerry fans.)

9. Oh please...
Kerry will not vote for Bolton. Sorry but very lame dig. Kerry has been out there fighting and sorry to say, as BB is my Senator he's getting far more support to his action calls than BB.

I trust both Kerry and BB to vote against Bolton.

10. Learn about Kerry before you speak
He has been fighting against Bolton before Boxer was even in the Senate.

He has been calling against Bolton the day Bush nominated him.

6. Good for her
I dont need to email to my senators, so I would have appreciated the name of a few Senators that are amenable to change their votes. Emailing to Allen, for example is a loss of time. Emailing to Collins or Chafee may be more useful.
