Kerry and Kennedy to Attend Pope's Funeral
Kerry and Kennedy to Attend Pope's Funeral
5 April 2005

AP News is reporting that Senators Kerry and Kennedy have been invited to be part of a congressional delegation attending the funeral of Pope John Paul II.

(Washington - AP) —

Massachusetts Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry have been invited to be part of a congressional delegation traveling to Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul.

Kennedy met privately with the pontiff during a visit to Rome in the 1980s. He recalls presenting the pope with a bust of his brother, President John Kennedy.

The small group of senators attending the funeral will also include Democrat Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, who in 1983 delivered a message to the pope from Polish solidarity leader Lach Welesa.

1. So, Are the Bolton hearings postponed or what?
Geez, I was hoping for some good fireworks on that one. Sen. Kerry is on the Foreign Relations Committee. Is the hearing postponed or is he blowing it off ot go to Rome?

3. If Kerry goes, that's very generous of him
considering that (IMHO) the Pope or at least the Vatican all but actively compaigned against him. It completely revolved my opinion of the Pope.

9. Actually, the Vatican wouldn't condone the attacks on Kerry and Democrats
by some of the rightwing American bishops.

Bush even tried to get the Vatican to make a statement against them, and the Pope refused.

The Pope has known both Kerry and Teresa for decades and knows their work for the poor and the environment. He knows Kerry's efforts towards peace.

The Pope agreed with Kerry about 90% of the time on poverty, healthcare, fair wages, corporate greed, environmental concerns, and education.

He agreed with Bush ONLY on abortion and stem-cell research.

23. I would like to know more about that
Had they literally met at some point? I'd love to read a story of how they knew each other.

It's pretty sad how the RW hated the pontiff when he was against Iraq, but now want to latch onto him like a barnacle to soak up some good will.

Have you noticed how the RW tries to claim every dead popular person was a Republican. Tried it with Carson as well. Carson was NOT a Republican.

7. Don't you remember all those Catholic churches denying him communion?
And the Vatican started saying that it was okay for churches to deny communion to pro-choice Catholics, all the while never saying a word about pro-war or pro-death penalty Catholics like Jeb Bush? I called my local church (St. James in Seattle) to ask for an explanation and they said they would call me back but never did.

16. is it possible for Kerry to giveup his place for Carter ?
if he can i think he should .

but he is going as part of a congressional delegation so if he doesn't go then another congress member would probably just go instead.

it makes me sick the Chimp is denying Carter from attending. fuck him, fuck him forever, the fake moral fucking asshole piece of shit. i hate the motherfucker. Carter is the true moral leader of this country. notice Carter doesn't really talk about it either, he just lives it .

20. Actually, it would be better if
Rice stayed home, and both Carter and Ford attended. I see no reason why she should be going at all.

Jimmy Carter was the first president to welcome a pope to the White House. It would make sense that all the living presidents go. There are 5 counting the appointed one, and 5 is the number the Vatican is allowing them to attend.

On the other hand, it will be fun to watch the Freeper frenzy when Kennedy and Kerry show up.

25. Even a conservative friend of mine can see that
She pointed out that Carter built houses, while Reagan gave speeches and made money. She figured Carter was the better man.

17. No suprise there. They're both Catholics & the Pope was rooting for Kerry
in the Presidential race. He told people they could vote for a pro-choice candidate and later he came to Kerry's defense when people tried to defame Kerry. Of course, I would expect the Pope to side with Kerry against the "Anti-Christ."

21. Well that proves that the Pope was a decent and smart man.
Because only decent and smart people voted for Kerry, even through alot of those who voted for King Retard (Bush) are not dumb, but they are very easily fooled but the BS Propaganda that was and continues to be put out by mainstream media outlets.

24. Did the Pope literally call Bush the anti-christ?
I keep hearing that.

Yeah, I seem to remember that as well that the Pope said it was okay to vote for a pro-choice Catholic. Other Catholic priests in America said so as well. Of course, there were two sides to that coin though.

Good to hear JPII was rooting for Kerry. Despite some problems, Karol seemed to be a good man.
