5. Delay is the keystone

that holds the whole rotten edifice of GOP solidarity together. He uses control of party purse strings to bully moderates into voting for an extremist agenda, and they hate him for it. Most are just hanging on to their offices, hoping to outlast the bastard. Without him, the party will start to split, and we may see them much as the Dems of the 60s were, with a large portion of their membership voting with the GOP on many issues. So the moderates in the GOP will start to side with the Dems.

Any change has got to start with the fall of Delay.

I guess I'm in the minority on this poll, but I think he's a great specimen to use for highlighting self-righteous hypocrisy...Leave him in place for a while for 2006 election ammunition.

He's just not a symbol of corruption that is useful for taking down Republicans. He's an enormously powerful man who more than any other individual in DC is responsible for turning into law the ultra-conservative Republican agenda.

If he goes directly to jail without passing go, it's good for us. If he gets mentioned in a hearing or two and fades away, it makes no difference.

10. Getting rid of Delay would help shed the Dems' 'ineffective' label.

The Dems do have a reputation as 'weak' or 'ineffective', and I do think it would go a long way towards shedding that label if they have a major victory to speak of going into the 2006 mid-terms. Delay would be a nice one to have in the bag to supply them with the means of removing this label.

I know a lot of Republicans --- and now many of them see Delay for the shameless, gutless, sleazy, self-promoting cretin that he's always been. I say let him stay and continue to divide the party.

I do not know how strong a case there is against him, but if if is strong the case should be pushed he should be pushed out. People should not keep a bad member of congress, even if it is good for their party. I am surprised by this poll as I thought the correct answer would be well understood here.
