Why doesn't the Left support M. Schaivo like the Right the parents?
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 08:41 AM by seeker4ever
Massive resources are used by the right to promote their freakish superstitious hypocrisy, why don't progressives and Liberals bring financial power to bear on Schaivo's side?

4. Precisely. I support the courts who have ruled on this again and again.
Beyond that, Ms. Schiavo and her family are none of my business.

7. You nailed it, sniffa.
Liberals tend to respect the privacy of the parties involved.

17. Exactly. The LEFT favors allowing families to grieve in private
instead of sending teams of yahoos with signs around to disturb dying people at a hospice.

Call us mannerly. Call us restrained. Just don't call us hysterical freaks.

Thanks.

20. I agree. Also, I believe many Dems are conflicted on the issue
(for examples just check out DU TS threads). But, the bottom line is it's NONE OF THE GOVERNMENT'S BUSINESS.

8. I don't think so
We realize the sensitivity of the situation and wish that there could be more peace made with Terri Schiavo's wishes. What would us organizing on the other side of the street from the Holly Rollers down in Florida do to help the fact that a husband and his in laws do not get along and disagree on the best interests of a wife/daughter?

Nothing. And we know that... that is why we constrain our comments beleifs etc about this case to forums like these or with friends not with the media or politicians (although I did write a letter thanking my Rep for voting against the Schiavo bill in the House).

9. He's probably been offered support, but doesn't take it...
because he doesn't want to make it even more circus-like, unlike his Zell Miller-like inlaws who will lie down with any flea bit dog with a Bible.

I esp like the ones praying with Jessie Jackson yesterday, AS IF they'd have *anything* good to say about him otherwise...

11. The "Left" Does
The "left" does support Terri Schiavo's right to die (even if by now all the dignity is gone). The problem is the jellyfish, spineless establishment Democratic Party ... They are scared to death (pun intended) to make a strong, principled stand on ANYTHING anymore.

Begin sarcasm ...
"Oh my! Someone might criticize us," whines Sen. Harry Reid.
"What? There's a controversy? I'm not getting involved; I have an election next year," opines Sen. Hillary Clinton.
"I agree with our commander-in-chief during a time of war," says Joe Lieberman.
"I'm a Catholic," says Sen. John Kerry.
End sarcasm ...

And that's about the way it really is ...

12. Because it's a personal situation, a personal tragedy
and we perhaps have a sense of decency?

I don't want to see us using this for political purposes.

15. Everything doesn't have to be couched in right vs left. The right is
trying to do that. They are using Terri Schiavo to benefit their political ends by catering to the right to lifers in two ways. First they say they are in the side if life vs death and second they are saying that the Dems favor death. It is a means to gain votes so they can stay in power and help their wealthy benefactors.

It is a shame that both the common person on the right or left has to be dragged into this as a political fight. This type of conflict has been going on for a long long time but this is the first time someone's personal tragedy has been used by the right to it's political advantage.

18. Then we would be just as guilty of using T. Schaivo
for political purposes as the Right. I think most of us do support the Schaivo and Schlinder families' privacy to figure out this matter without being used for political gain. Just because the Schlinders have allowed themselves to be used doesn't matter.
