Okay, just a theory: Lindsey Graham (SC) is running for President in '08
Here's my reasoning

Graham is from the dark red state of South Carolina. Recently this state just sent bigoted homophobe fascist Jim DeMint to the US Senate. Clearly anything that Bush proposes, the majority of South Carolinians seem to love.

Yet... Lindsey Graham has actually been pretty good about certain issues lately. He has been admantly against Social Security Privatization and Bush's cuts in reservist pay and veterans' healthcare.

This is perfect positioning for a 2008 presidential bid. His stances on social issues are conservative enough that the GOP base will rally around him and the Democratic nominee will be unable to attack him on social security or on short-changing our veterans and men and women in uniform, two big issues that we are counting on in 2008.

Also, even though he will only have had one term in the Senate, he was in the house before that so he is not completely without experience. The only thing to consider is that his Senate seat is up in 2008 but I would imagine that it would be a fairly safe seat and he could probably run for POTUS and for the Senate.

1. could be
and I agree with you on Graham. He's surprisingly reasonable at times, occasionally more so than the Dems.

10. I don't think so
He is spending lots of money and getting no where with his Put Parents in Charge bill. Both Repubs and Dems don't like his style at least in SC.

12. Sanford carried 2 pigs into the State House in Columbia recently ...
Sanford recently carried 2 pigs, one under each arm, into the State House to protest pork projects by legislators. They defecated on the marble floor, in front of everyone, as soon as he put them down. A Freudian poop, I'd call it.

He has his own pork projects, of course, "Put Parents In Charge" being the most visible. It's interesting that one of the leaders of the political action group that started this has a "degree" from a well-known diploma mill. I haven't seen this mentioned in the MSM here but I found it very easily by way of Google.

3. Wouldn't be surprised. It's an open primary.
That puts him up against Frist and Jeb (who, of course, is not running).

Fun.

4. He's been acting way too moderate
the party leaders all hate his guts plus he could gay and in the closet (lifelong bachelor). They'll never pick him.

5. Lindsey Graham will never get the Republican nomination
..and we all know why. Although he would be preferable to Junior, at least by his recent actions.

7. If he is a Senator he won't be elected
These are the three categories that get them elected:
Governor
VP
War Hero

8. Graham is single, no family and is rumored to be Gay
I'm not going to make any assumptions and unfortunately, anyone who is single at middle-age in politics usually suffers rumors they are gay.

But those kinds of rumors will sink any presidential bid.

16. Bingo!
The rumor is that Graham is gay. The merest hint of such "evilness" immediately disqualifies him from the GOOP field.

lately.

The blog that has been outing Republicans has pressured Graham into setting a more centrist course. They were all set to out him a few months back, and then backed off. Not surprising to note that Graham has been seeking a more centrist role lately.

15. Grahmam is happy to privatize SS and pay for it by lifting the cap!
This is the essence of his plan. Privatize, but pay for it--so in essence, we would be paying for eliminating the security in Social Security.

Not gonna happen!

17. WOW! WYFF-TV just aired a very anti- Lindsey Graham ad!
Aired during the WYFF-TV (Greenville, SC, NBC affiliate) 6pm local news. I first thought it was bashing a Democrat. I'll pay more attention to it next time. Anyone else see it. It seemed to be bashing his stance on Social Security.
