They have just as much right to the pills as their purer sisters.

don't want babies (yet) have also as much right to their pills, for that matter.

were used solely for birth control, how is the holier-than-thou pharmacist to know the reason for meds?

estrogen is the worst thing you can take for fibroids--it's fibroid fertilizer, along with progesterone.

http://www.wdxcyber.com/nbleed14.htm

The official medical name for fibroids is uterine leiomyomata. They are a growth of uterine smooth muscle cells that reproduce in a fairly round ball shape. They occur primarily in reproductive age women and grow in size if estrogen and progesterone is present and do not increase in size if estrogen and progesterone levels are low (1). Birth control pills play a role in stimulating fibroid growth and the fibroids may regress in size when the pills are stopped (2).We used to think that it was just the estrogen component that was necessary for growth but it now appears the progesterone is critical to fibroid growth (3).

Fibroids decrease in size to a very small size after menopause if a woman does not take estrogen replacement. They do not totally go away; there is always a small nucleus of the fibroid that can become stimulated again under certain hormonal conditions. For the most part, however, a woman herself is not aware of them, the doctors cannot feel the fibroid(s) on pelvic exam and most of the time, they are below the resolution of ultrasound by several years after menopause as long as there is no extra estrogen.

After menopause, taking estrogen and progestin replacement therapy can cause fibroids to grow (5).

I was diagnosed with fibroids about 8 yrs ago and told then not to take ERT's, birth control pills--that once I hit menopause and the decrease in estrogen production, they should shrink enough to where I won't have to have a hysterectomy.

18. That's why my girfriend used birth control when she was younger.
Had nothing to do with sex or contraception.

Just a way to regulate things.

5. As a minimum, these hyper-religious pharmacists must be forced to
prominently post what prescriptions they will not fill. That way, patrons who choose not to deal with assholes can be warned that they need to take their business elsewhere.

29. I totally agree
(Do they also refuse to fill viagra prescriptions, too?)

I am disgusted by the ambush tactics these pharmacists use---if they are proud enough to bludgeon unsuspecting women with their religious convictions while on the job, then the store should be forced to inform customers of the religious stance of their pharmacists so that not only is the prescription holder made aware, but also other customers so they can determine if they want to shop at said pharmacy.

Money will speak louder to the pharmacy chain than will the religious convictions of an employee.

Does this also mean that cashiers can refuse to sell tampons to young girls because they dont' like the thought of a 14 yr old sticking a tampon in her vagina? Can they refuse to sell liquor to an adult because they don't approve of drinking alcohol?

Where does it end? Doctors should then be able to dispense birth control pills in their office if the pharmacists are going to be like that.

9. And contact the office
Make sure that the pharmacy's main office hears about it and knows you won't go there again nor recommend them. Enough people do this, we can trade evil Christians with evil MBAs in charge of the companies.

8. If they refused to fill Viagra prescriptions, there'd be an outcry.
Lots of possible reasons for this:

1. You're not married, so no Viagra.

2. Your current wife is not your original wife and marriage is forever.

3. Your wife might be out of town and you're planning to have sex with someone else.

4. I think married couples should only have sex when there's a possibility for procreation and you and your wife are too old.

23. What about AZT for AIDS patients? "God is judging you for sodomy so no
AZT for you, buddy. Sorry."

Worst part about this is some pharmacists also won't transfer the prescription to another pharmacy. I think it is time to tell some of these guys, "fine, you want to follow your convictions, but maybe you need to find another line of work, then." Can a doctor who is a Jehovah's Witness refuse to give a blood transfusion to a patient? I don't think so.

After all, it's all about the buck and they have pumped millions of bucks into Washington to sell drugs. Expect a law requiring pharmacists to sell drugs or be fined.

Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 01:19 PM by ultraist
They can refuse to serve women who use birth control, Gays, and any non-Christian?

They cannot discriminate based on sex. Refusing to serve women is violating equal protection of the 14th amdmt.

This is a crime and I think people who commit this crime should serve some jail time and loose their license.

They are part of the medical community and if they can't perform the tasks involved then get a differnt career.

for anything at all, based on moral objections.

Can you imagine it?

22. Take Action! Sign this petition from NARAL Pro-Choice America.
http://prochoiceaction.org/campaign/pharmacy_petition/step1.tcl

Tell pharmacy chains to stop discriminating against women! In as many as 20 states, pharmacies can refuse to fill women’s prescriptions for contraception, including the morning-after pill.

When a woman and her doctor decide that a prescription for contraception is in the woman's best interest, a third party has no right to override that decision.  Pharmacies must ensure that patients get their doctor-prescribed medication without delay or inconvenience.

Join NARAL Pro-Choice America in telling our nation’s biggest pharmacies (Wal-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreen's, and Eckerd's) not to stand between a woman and her physician. Simply complete the information at right to send your letter.

24. time to start taxing religious organizations which approve of this tactic
if the church is going to get all involved in political issues, it's time to strip them of their tax-exemption.

If the church wants to run this country, the church has to pay taxes.

25. pull all of your scripts from any chain that allows the pharmacists to
chose who gets treated and who does not. People have been put on birth control pills for reasons other than birth control. Once the company realizes that their pharmacists "moral values" are losing them money, they will get a pharmacists with real values to replace him.

27. I received this reply from WalMart Customer Service.
Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting us at Walmart.com regarding women?s
prescriptions for birth control. Your comments and concerns are very
important to us as we strive to meet your needs.

Wal-Mart does not carry emergency contraceptives. Our pharmacists may
decline to fill a prescription based on personal convictions. However,
they must find another pharmacist, either at Wal-Mart or another
pharmacy, who can assist you by filling your prescription.

Again, we thank you for your comments regarding this issue.

Sincerely,

Customer Service at Walmart.com

30. Don't blame the pharmacy.

This is a case where the problem is the law, not the pharmacy. Many states, even Illinois believe it or not, have laws that protect the right for a pharmacist to refuse to dispense a drug based on his/her individual beliefs.

The pharmacy is not allowed to discriminate against (i.e. fire) a pharmacist who exercises this right. So it's not your pharmacy, even if it is the evil Wal-Mart.

31. I blame WalMart for refusing to carry emergency contraception.
Evidently WalMart would rather dispense "morality" than prescriptions. Let's help them by refusing to get our prescriptions at WalMart until they change their policy regarding physician prescribed emergency contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
