Has RoveCo been successful in intimidating protestors?
The ones across the ocean were decent size, but the ones here were pretty small in comparison to past protests. Even in NYC and other places where you would expect huge protests. Nothing really.

What gives?

1. I think people are giving up
we have done a lot of work, but nobody sees any results

I know I no longer have any hope for change until middle murica rises en masse and that will only happen when they are hungry enough.

2. A protest needs to be seen by the people to have an impact
The MSM made sure no video of anti-Bush protests made it to the airwaves. They've done a good job of this, since day one. Eventually, I think, many people who might be inclined to say "What's the point?" and simply give up. I mean, at this point it is pretty clear that short of every man, woman and child turning out to march, anti-Bush protests are just not going to get airtime.

4. I think it was a month of "freedom on the march," and lauding Maher's
idiot-savant. It will boomerang.

5. Since Vietnam everyone knows you can only stop war by cutting funding
When the Vietnam appropriations were ending in 1975 Ambassador Graham A. Martin was still screaming for more aid, all the while Generals at the Pentagon--who couldn't gas up their cars--were sandbagging him.

The war was really over by 1973's US pullout anyway but we continued to put money into the rathole until 1975.

The War Powers Act allows for every sixty days to have a review of the situation, which Congress shouldn't have allowed Bush to go into Iraq on trumped up charges on in the first place, but that aside, and without full accountability, all that remains is the power of the purse to pull the plug.

The rising price of oil seems to be doing the trick.

7. I hope not. Could it be that there were more events planned at
the local level in many more cities/towns. I think I saw that last year there were 319 events planned and that this year 765 were planned. I know that our local event was small compared to other places, but it was a good crowd for us (150+ at times).
