Let's think positive !
America will open her eyes. She will correct course. She has been courted and deceived but not again. This Social Security battle has shown all of America who is really on her side and who is on the side of Wall Street. She knows there is no "crisis" in Social Security.

She also knows we are in debt up to our eyeballs and she knows the difference between talk and actions. Talk is cheap. We can say we are "spreading democracy" throughout the world, but that doesn't make it so. As carbombs and killings continue, America will open her eyes and show a new way. It will happen.

1. How old are you?
Not a serious question.

I think I'm too cynical to be posting in your thread.

4. I'd like to think so
I'd like to positively image everything you posted......but it's not easy to do....

My sense is based on my knowledge of human nature....this is what I think is most likely:

Bush* over reaches badly assuming he has massive political capital but he's mistaken. All but the true republican "base" (that 35% that would support him no matter what he did) rise up against him....he is abandoned and isolated. Soon, the house starts listening to cries for impeachment. Repubs abandon him huge numbers. There is talk of lynching....he is disgraced and impeached. He spends the remainder of his life dodging subpoenas behind the gates of his Kennebuckport compound with his bodyguards and Jack Daniels.

5. I think you are right about him over-reaching...
and it will not be the Congress or Senate that abandon him so much as the Republican Party. I think, out of necessity, they will see the mess they have created and attempt to distance themselves from it before it blows up right in front of their eyes...Much like they thought Poppy Bush was going to do with his huge deficits in 1992...They used the excuse it was because he said "Read my lips", but I believe they were panicky about the direction the country was headed and were not looking to be blamed. I think Bush will be abandoned to a large degree, before his term is over.

6. Oh, it's turning already - I've seen liberals speaking up at the red-neck
bar. I've never in 10 years seen the liberals speaking up at the red-neck bar - now it seems there are more outspoken liberals than Repukes - I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. If it's happening in my red-neck bar, it's probably happening at at red-neck bar near you - they are getting fed up with the lies (and messing with SS and high gas prices for their SUV's & trucks).

7. THANK YOU.
Realism and pragmatism are fine, as are acknowledging our frustration and pain, (lord knows I've done enough of that here), but wallowing in defeatist "all hope is lost" sentiments relieve us of the responsibility of continuing to try to fight this oppression.

8. I agree, Kentuck! Thanks!!
So many scandals are pushing at the BFEE dike, they cannot plug all the holes!

Truly, I have conversations all the time with folks who have never been politically active in their lives, who are suddenly raising their heads and noticing what is going on. I am trying to teach them to call/write Congress and the press. Shrugging shoulders and saying "What can we do?" is an all too common reaction.

But the emotions are boiling, right under the polite surface. And I think not only are the working class waking from a long comfortable sleep--I think that the "upper middles" are finding with a SHOCK that they are also being thrown off the boat!

Patriotism DOES run deep, after all, in the midst of all the capitalism. The Bushes will go down as traitors to America.
