Co-Sponsors of the House Bankruptcy bill.. 83 of them. Some Dems
If you are following the activities of the Bankruptcy Coalition of the blogs, you are aware of this.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/14/6499/88532

In the thread there is a link which list the co-sponsors of the House version of the bill..
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:HR00685:@@@P

One of them is Jim Davis from Florida who is planning to run for governor next year. He is also one of the New Democrat Coalition, and he signed the letter urging Hastert to bring it to a vote.
This makes me furious. I have had contact with his office twice now, and I get nowhere. I figure when someone votes for this bill, he hurts all of us.
http://www.house.gov/jimdavis/

The coalition recommends trying to get some to withdraw as co-sponsors. I don't know who the Democrats are here, as they don't give the party designation.

1. Thanks for this post, madfloridian.
Have emailed Davis about this bill. I am really disappointed in these House Democrats.

Tonight I also mailed back the letter from Senator Stabenow suggesting she make up the slack in the money she would have gotten from the base by calling the credit card companies. They think we are not paying attention; in fact, they count on it.

3. Go ahead Hart, give us more reasons to vote Chris Heinz...
Just keep chalking them up. The 'silent vote' to protect DeLay, the co-sponsor on the predatory bankruptcy bill....keep going, honey. It'll make Chris Heinz's campaign that much easier.

What Is A New Democrat?

The New Democrat Coalition was formed in 1997 to provide moderate, pro-growth Members of Congress the opportunity to advance a common sense policy agenda that will move our country in the right direction. New Democrats have built a reputation as the “go-to” group in Congress on the critical issues of New Economy, trade, education, and fiscal responsibility.

New Democrats hail from every region of the country, although there is definitely a suburban bent to the Members’ districts. The New Democrats also tend to be newer-elected Members: since the group’s inception in 1997, more than 2/3 of incoming freshman have joined the New Democrat Coalition, and more than 70 percent of the group was elected in the last six years.

Intent on modernizing both the Democratic party and the country, New Democrats support policies to expand economic growth and ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to benefit from that growth; a fiscally responsible and efficient government; a secure homefront; and a robust foreign policy that includes trade, constructive U.S. leadership throughout the world, and a modern and strong military.

13. After the vote go to the clerk of the house website
If it is a voice vote, we will never know.

If it is a recorded vote, give the clerk 24 hours and check this site.

15. Our weasel congressman won't tell people how he votes,
even when you call and ask. I'm furious to hear that there's no record of voice votes. We need a law requiring a written record of every vote.

19. If unfamiliar with parliamentary procedure...
Watch CSPAN.

House rules call for 1) voice vote 2) roll call (recoreded vote) only if requested and a sufficient number of members arise.

Read the rules at http://www.house.gov/rules/

If you think they should be changed, contact your Representative or a member of the Rules Committee - ranking member is Louise Slaughter.

12. Some genuinely unpleasant people are on that list.
Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD) and Virgil Goode (R-VA), for example.

I'm disappointed to see Darlene Hooley (D-CO, if I recall correctly) there, and Mike Castle (R-DE).

18. Hooley is my rep in OR and I'm utterly confused
since she was staunchly against the war in Iraq and has, with Ron Wyden, have been the next best thing to Russ Feingold we could find.

I'll be stopping by her office or giving them a few phone calls about this now though...hope this is a "membership" thing and not a "voting" thing...either way though it doesn't sit or digest well.

Damn, I'm disappointed.

17. Maybe it's blackmail?
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 10:43 AM by emcguffie
It's been driving me crazy, all these Dems voting for that. Hey, I'm sick myself, chronically, and it's just getting to me to the point that I'm at home because it hurts too much to go to work. If I have to go on disability, I think I'll end up going bankrupt. Too late, I guess.

Anyway, I was wondering about what is up with these Dems. Now, think about it. Every election we lose seats -- and I am of the opinion that this is due to fraud, usually, or jerrymandering. I think each election they target Dems who are particular thorns in their sides, and take them out through fraud.

It may be that this is getting through to our elected officials, and they don't want to be "nixed", and so they cooperate. Their eyes are opening, and they'e saying, oh my god... they can do that to me.... Gee, I better make nice nice, so they will like me.

Why else would they do this? It's nuts. Complete betrayal. This at least makes a wee bit of sense, although it doesn't excuse their behavior. What they should be doing is making a stink about election fraud.

20. I am disgusted to note Jay Inslee of WA on that list
I would like an explanation from his office as to why Jay co-sponsored such a terrible bill. Somehow, though, I'm wondering if that will be happening.

My faith in him is truly shaken.
