Daschle could move to MN to run for Dayton's seat

I heard this on Ed Schultz yesterday that Tom Daschle could move to Minnesota to run for Senate for Mark Dayton's seat. Schultz said he knows Daschle and it wouldn't take much arm twisting.

Is this a good thing for the Democrats or should we move on?

we tend to forget that congresscritters actually only represent states and districts. they are constrained by the need to get re-elected from a state or district that may not be very representative of the nation.

i would venture to say that mn is closer to america's center (politically) than sd is.

in that while Daschle was a moderate, he was slimed by "radical out of touch liberal" nonstop for over 2 years by the GOP.

While he probably still has a future in politics, it is just not in the short term. He will get more respect in his home state for future offices (maybe Gov of SD) as South Dakotans see how Thune represents agribusness and ignores them.

Mr. Daschle, should he harbor any further political aspirations, would find any fertile soil left for them in SD. The place sounds like it has gone a bit silly for a while.

It's an intriguing possibility. I wonder if he has changed a bit on his feelings about getting into a knock-down, drag-out with repukes? I hope so. Collegiality will only get you so far.

we have a good crop of Dems in MN who are running. MN is not NY and Daschle is not Hillary.

..and was listening to ED when he made that proposal. I thought he was joking and laughed hysterically.

Minnesota does not need or want Tom Daschle!

Word on the street: Patty Wetterling has alot of support statewide for Dayton's seat.

Daschle coming to town and running for this seat would only confirm the beliefs that the DLC/CorpoFascists are running the Democratic Party.

Dayton is'nt going to seek re-election because he had to spend 8-10 million $ of his own money the first time. He is'nt going to do that again, and his attempts to raise money have not gone well.

You say you have a strong list of Dem candidates. Which of them have the money or could raise the money?

Oh, and it should be noted that Norm Coleman did'nt spend a whole lot of time in the state either, til he wanted to run for office. He's more of a New Yorker than anything, as you can tell by his accent, which he has painfully tried to alter the past few years with mixed, and humurous, results. Yet the people of MN voted him into the senate...

21. Strange 2002 election

It would be easy to say he got lucky in 2002. It was one of the most unusual fall election cycles for a while. I still doubt if he would have won if there were no major developments like that election gave towards the end.

If he's so all-fired eager to get back into the Senate, let him go after the seat of his own state's other Senator, whenever that comes up.
