Dan Bartlett on Late Edition re: *s strategy for SS
He said that "the president" had "told" them not to give specifics or acknowledge or endorse any details of any possible solution or plan, but to reward positive process. McConnell was doing the same thing on MTP this morning--outright rejecting any suggestions and heartily applauding the Dems on expressing willingness to come to the table.
Folks, we need to get braces for these Dem legislators before they get suckered into the old "bipartisan" shell game again.
2. Bush is such a sleaze-bag, he won't put anything on the table....
...except vague generalities with puffball claims so he can sucker democrats into coming up with a plan for something that is not at all broken. Hit the bastard on that, THE SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM IS NOT IN CRISIS!
Create a cartoon showing Bush scurrying around as Chicken Little shouting, "Social Security is falling! Social Security is falling!" Even have a pair of cowboy boots and a cowboy hat on the chicken and fat roosters dressed as Wall Street bankers and brokers with big cigars smiling at each other eying the Social Security trust fund about to fall into their arms and JQ public standing naked in a barrel suit in the middle of the street.
Will Bush and the Repubs be able to convince enough people that the Democrats are "obstructionists" and do not wish to fix the program? They are better, with the media's assistance, at seeling their PR... The Democrats would like to take advantage of this misstep by the Repubs and also not be painted as obstructionist.
7. senator kennedy was on george s.'s show this morning.
he said the dems were NOT going to come up with a plan until they know what shrub's plan is. the talking heads on the tube have been pushing the dems to speak up, making the dems look like they have no alternative to what is (not) on the table now. shilling for the repugs again.
