Detroit Free Press Smears Dean
"From New Hampshire to South Carolina . . . to Michigan, Ohio California . . . Washington, everybody is still talking about Howard Dean's Iowa caucus meltdown.

The spooky grin, the tourniquet sleeves, the beady eyes -- it kind of reminds you of Jack Nicholson in "The Shining."

Quick, hide the sharp objects. The Michigan caucus is only 16 days away."

The article goes on to compare Dean to Pete Rose, Britney Spears, and every other negative public figure that they could think of.

3. When they go after Kerry, as they surely will
I sincerly hope you won't have the unmitigated gaul to expect me to defend him. If I do it will be because of the graciousness of most Kerry supporters.

4. Well said!
Most of the Iowa voters interviewed said that Kerry and Edwards supporters were very nice.
Nice matters!

You don't have to defend him.

7. I'm with you on this, dsc.
Every wound remembered.

Actually, I will defend Kerry, Clark, whoever from experiencing the same fate that Dean is suffereing if their time comes. All the while, I will make sure they know it is a Dean supporter who feels the knife in his back doing it.

10. They already have been going after Kerry. Let's review:
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 12:12 PM by AP
- the Kerry coverage when he cleared out his staff was some of the most shockingly bad coverage I've ever seen -- it was designed to give him no chance in IA.

- the Clark coverage: he got so much good press up to the day he declared. For a week or two after that, it was unbelievably bad. After that, he was ignored.

- Edwards: Edwards who? They ignored him.

Iowa cooked Dean's goose, so that's it for him. The media no longer has to pretend. The game isn't about delivering up for Bush a sacrificial lamb, I mean goose, I mean lamb.

11. I defend and support Kerry because he deserves it the most
I respect his long record and years on this earth.

SO does the Boston Globe

5. Dr. Dean--along with Kucinich--led the pack in showing that Democrats
didn't have say "thank you, Mr. Bush, may I have another?" everytime the radical right smacked them across the head.

Now the "Empire Strikes Back" when they perceive Dean isn't as popular as they were scared he was.

Question--if Dean is so "unelectable," why are the RWers hellbent to slander and malign him? They know damn well he's the one to fear.

Thanks for the post, btw. It shows how hysterical big media is to maintain the status quo.

8. But, but, but don't you know smiles and sleeves are this season's
Hot Political Topics?

Yelling to a crowd who is screaming for you is too um, real for zombied out Americans on prozac.

9. BTW, did the media--which is all about appearances--ever consider
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 12:02 PM by mistertrickster
the idea that an unscripted, spontaneous moment might play well with Americans used to all the fake crap on t.v.?

Even the so-called "reality shows" are far from reality with their bizzaro set-ups and planned conflicts (nerds vs. jocks on "The Bachelorette" for example).

Maybe a guy just being a guy isn't so flipping terrible.

On edit--although I only see glimpses of it as I'm changing channels, is anybody else getting the distinct feeling that those huge fights on Jerry Springer are as staged as professional wrestling. The barely supressed smiles when somebody's lover tells him she's been doing his son by another marriage just doesn't ring true, as well as the inevitable strip tease . . .

12. The Detroit Free Press
is still trading on its liberal image from the 1960s when in fact they are rabidly anti-labor dimwits in bed with the Detroit News.

To my eye, their credibility on political issues is only slightly higher than Barney the Purple Dinosaur's. Face it: Detroit's papers are in the toilet.
