Why should I trust John Aravosis and "America Blog?"
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 09:52 PM by KoKo01
Until they and "Media Matters" broke Gan/Gurk...I didn't know them. I did know "Media Matters" and David Brock.

Can some DU'ers vouch for Aravosis for me? How long has his blog been up...I've been around the Net for awhile and thought I knew most of the liberal sites from other DU posters who would link through the past few years. Aravosis burst onto the scene...so I'm just asking.

1. Uh, because he provides facts and evidence to back up his claims?
Why should you trust ANYBODY?

Who are you?
John Aravosis is a Washington DC-based writer and political consultant, specializing in using the Internet for political advocacy. He is the creator of StopDrLaura.com, Matthew Shepard Online Resources, and DearMary.com, among other activist Web sites.

John has a joint law degree and masters in foreign service from Georgetown, where he studied under former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. He is an avid writer, and in addition to writing THE LIST, he has worked as a stringer for the Economist magazine, and for years was the US Politics Guide at About.com.

John's policy experience includes stints in the US Senate, the World Bank, and the Children's Defense Fund. John is also an occasional TV pundit, having appeared on The O'Reilly Factor, Hardball with Chris Matthews, ABCNews World News Tonight, CNN, Court TV, and more. John speaks five languages and has visited or worked in 28 countries.

That should get you started.

7. Thank you...that's good news...but..
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 10:08 PM by KoKo01
why is he so excited about a "World Net Daily" article...that he's very exhuberant about...and now has an ad for meeting "Gay Jocks who are" out on his website? I've been over there reading the latest about Gan/Gurk for the last couple of weeks and this is the first I've seen an ad advertising "Gay Jocks" and to "download pictures."

It's kind of "off putting" considering he's doing a story about a guy who had websites advertising the same thing.

I knew he was gay...and have NO problem with that. But if I had a Blog site that was exposing a female prostitute who worked for Chimp I wouldn't exactly be putting ads up about "Come to the "Doll House" to meet Trixie, who will "show you a good time." ?????????

9. Why don't you contribute to one of his frequent open threads?
I'm sure you'll get all of your answers there.

15. I think he also mentions at the very top of his blog
That this is his source of income, so being a gay rights advocate among other things, it makes sense that outsports.com or what not would advertise on a site that is getting lots of publicity right now.

I don't see anything wrong with him accepting advertising from a site about professional athletes that are gay.

16. I see your point about the ad from outsports.com
But it really is a website for gay fans of sports, not Trixie inviting you 'for a good time'.

Aravosis makes no secret that he is gay and most of his readers before JJGG were gay. Hopefully he is getting a lot of donations from progressives now and won't have to rely on ads.

5. I thought about posting whether our "trust" has been completely broken.
Sometimes,...frankly, most times,...I feel like my trust has been completely broken.

I find the broken trust thingy,...a very poor indicator of the state of this nation. This leadership is an infection,...against which we must protect ourselves. Their following is merely an infection. But, we can't ignore it.

I know for a fact that there are few "dark and greedy and predatory" people like them because I live among common human beings. However, with respect to all those vultures which closely circle around the neocon crowd, I wouldn't even open my door.

11. Yep. At least you can get some background on his page,...
,...unlike some many others I've read. I really, really object to sites which are opaque. Red flags hit me every single time there is a "black-hole" with respect to member bios and funding and so forth (this one included but I still post due to the talented participants)

14. I started checking out his blog mid-summer before the selection.
I found him to have a reasonable voice and his information always checked out. Good, credible source.
