Rush Limbaugh Meets the Troops-- They're "doing the Lord's work"
and the evil left wing is undermining their "mission" (which is WHAT exactly?)

Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 7:15 a.m. EST

Rush Meets the Troops in Afghanistan

Top talk radio host Rush Limbaugh met with U.S. troops in Afghanistan on Tuesday, praising them for their dedication and courage and skewering left wing war critics for undermining their mission.
Reporting on his own show to EIB fill-in host Roger Hedgecock, Limbaugh said U.S. forces are "just doing the Lord's work over here."

"I am more impressed and more in awe of the armed forces in this country, the uniformed personnel, than ever," the top conservative explained. "They love hearing stories about support for their operations and their mission, because they're all committed to it."
Limbaugh said he was humbled by the experience of meeting the troops on the front lines. "I can talk about them on the radio program as you do and we salute them and so forth," he told Hedgecock. "But I just felt so small compared to these people standing before them."

Afghanistan, he said, was still a "hellhole" after years of Taliban rule and tribal fighting. "I've never seen a place like this. I guess bombed-out Dresden in World War II might look somewhat like it."

<snip>

And he leveled with the soldiers about war critics back home.

"I didn't go politically correct on them. I told them exactly who's saying what about them," Limbaugh explained. "I told them what I think is the sort of phony baloney, plastic banana, good-time rock 'n' roller of some members of the American left saying they support the troops but they don't support their mission.

"And I haven't run into anybody who has snickered," he added.

************************************

BUT HOLD ON, RUSH--

Are the soldiers really committed to their mission? There are lots of letters from servicemen and their families that say otherwise. And lots that say they don't even know what they're doing in Iraq and Afghanistan:

A representative e-mail from a serviceman on Michael Moore's website:

<snip>

i can tell u bush might have a problem cause we are a bunch of pissed off Joes and i think most of the army is

we feel used we are tired of seeing friends die and what is going to happen now i can tell u everyone is getting out

we have lost trust for are chain of command i am about to get out in 2 days i spent 4 years in and almost 2 years in iraq

its been a sadd 2 years to see what he has done to us i wish the people in the states cared i mean all of them maybe they would change their minds bout bush

4. Sounds like we are
Limbaugh said he had been asking Defense and State departments to arrange a troop visit for two years. He will also be meeting with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai.

...

The trip is reportedly being arranged through the U.S. Agency for International Development.

International Development, eh? Guess Rush has plans for the expected bumper crop of poppies.

10. Just says it was "arranged" by the gov't, doesn't necessarily mean they're
paying for it. We are entitled to a solid answer. I should think Olberman would like to bite into this one...writing him now...

13. More...
It seems that Matalin believed the govt would be picking up at least part of her tab:
Political commentator Mary Matalin, a former White House aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, will also be on the trip. She said she was not being paid to go and would pay her own way to Dubai but she believed the U.S. government would cover the cost of her visit to Afghanistan from there.

...

Spokesmen for Limbaugh were not immediately available to comment.

"It's trying to get people to pay attention to all the good things we are doing in Afghanistan," a U.S. official who asked not to be named said of the trip, which is expected to take place next week. "This is just a different kind of outreach."

15. "This is just a different kind of outreach." WTF?
and "Jeff Gannon" was just a "different kind" of reporter; and bombing Iraq is just a "different kind" of diplomacy...

11. USAID-- An "independent" US Agency?
USAID is supposed to be an "independent" US agency. So then why are they sending the likes of Rush and Mary Matalin (also mentioned in your NewsMax story) off to the Middle East to be RNC propagandists? When is the agency sending Howard Zinn, I wonder? This one really stinks.

From the agency's website:

http://www.usaid.gov/faqs.html#q1

What is USAID?

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is an independent agency that provides economic, development and humanitarian assistance around the world in support of the foreign policy goals of the United States.
For more information, please visit About USAID.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where is USAID located, and how do I get there?

USAID is located in the Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20523. We are located on the Blue and Orange lines of the Washington, D.C. subway (the 'Metro') at the Federal Triangle Station.

7. Good question! Obvious propaganda spread by RW extremist
representing the Bush Administration. Hmmm, who has control of the purse strings?

Every DUer should be writing to their congressman...(D), (R), and (I) demanding some answers on this. Sending Limbaugh on the taxpayers dime to spew more divisive hate speech sprinkled with Bushmania is unconscionable. What does this truly say about the "bi-partisan" effort to bring the country together?

3. How dare that rat bastard go to Afghanistan on our dime and then
fill the troops heads with vile bullshit! He makes me sick! WTF? Who authorized this visit? Shit. It's bad enough that he is allowed to spew his venom in this country without any accountability...now he delivers his poisonous messages to our troops? I am appalled and outraged!

14. Just Another Lying Junkie
Rush hasn't run into anyone who disagrees with his flatulant analysis of Bush's Holy War in the Middle East and South Asia because he has surrounded himself with an entire goon squad that keeps his twisted ass safe from those who would call him out on his bullshit.

C'mon out into the open Rush and you'll hear a lot more than just snickers.

19. Did he tell them bush plans on cutting Vet's benefits?
Or that the military is having a hard time meeting its quota? Or that soldiers in Iraq still don't have adequate armor? Bet, not. Funny, repubs love to claim soldiers are being "spit on" by the left, when its them who are doing the spitting. Actions speak louder than words, especially the words of a junkie.
