ACTION ALERT: Help make Charles Schwab stop funding Bush's SS plan
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 03:18 PM by moggie12

Please consider signing this: The AFL-CIO is bombing Charles Schwab with e-mails, demanding Schwab stop funding the business group that is lobbying for Bush's Social Security reforms.

According to the e-mail, pressure from the AFL-CIO has already made Edward Jones & Co, another brokerage, drop out of the lobby...

People in their 40's+ may have substantial amounts of money in their IRAs, etc that they could "vote with"...

4. Profit?? Oh no , they just care about what's good for us!
And I completely believe this statement from Edward Jones concerning why they withdrew from the business lobbying group supporting Bush's SS reform proposal:

"Regina DeLuca-Imral, a spokeswoman for Edward Jones, said the firm withdrew from the alliance "because of the confusion some have expressed about Edward Jones's position on Social Security reform."

"We haven't taken a position supporting any of the reform proposals currently under consideration," she said.

Also, I am 100% certain these business groups only give money to politicians who care about us average Americans:

Steven B. Weingarten, a spokesman for the AFL-CIO's Office of Investment, said the labor federation targeted Edward Jones because it "played a leadership role in bringing key industry groups including the Securities Industry Association into the alliance." Douglas E. Hill, Edward Jones's managing partner, serves as SIA's vice chairman and chairman of its political action committee, which raises and doles out money to candidates for elective office.

And it worked.

I missed the new one, I'll have to post on it. This is the way to do it and if we worked together with existing groups, it would sure help. That's in that piece too.
