Laura Bush: My husband and I read newspapers in the morning
that is what she said on NBC Nightly News tonight. Is this another flip-flop and/or Rove distortion?

Somewhere out there is that quote that Bush does not read newspapers.

3. I may be true...
There is the comic section, then he tries to find his way around that pesky maze, and finally finishes of the crossword puzzle (if the words aren't to big).

4. The paper probably had a reprint of "My Pet Goat," and Laura
was just rereading a "golden oldie" for him.

5. this is BS
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 07:04 PM by Malva Zebrina
I read an article that stated this is exactly what the first Bush and his lovely lady did in the morning. The habit was to read the papers in bed in the morning, while being served their coffee. Others in the family would join them if they were around

Looks like a old family recipe for puffy propaganda being repeated

What a nice thing for a couple to do. Read the newspapers together. Whatever for? They virtually own the press.

I would suggest, mrs Laura Bush, that you get your ass over to a computer and read DU. You might get the real news as to your husband's war mongering lies that you, in your stepford style, fully support.

...carefully avoiding Doonesbury and Boondocks and any other comics with the long "oon" sound in the first syllable.

10.  I remember reading something a long time ago in one of the women's
magazines about Laura's spaghetti casserole recipe. The article read "When the first lady is at the ranch and " wants to tempt her family to the table" she dusts off this ole recipe and pots and pans start flying' in that Texas kitchen! I'll bet that is about as true as the newspaper horse shit. My guess is she rolls over takes a look at that bastid with that crusty spittle at the side of his mouth and rolls back over and goes back to sleep or smokes a cigarette. But that would not fit the Ward and June mold now would it.

22. They have their own chef.. I also remember reading an article
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 08:40 PM by liveoaktx
from when he first came to Washington, that he was brining the family chef. The chef bragged that he knew how to cook "calf fries" the right way, and that was one of the Bush families favorite eats. "Calf Fries" are, uh... balls.

I'm putting up info about the 60 year-old Lie Industry that works for the US gov't and the industries that own it.
Here's lots of info:

HUME: How do you get your news?

BUSH: I get briefed by Andy Card and Condi in the morning. They come in and tell me. In all due respect, you've got a beautiful face and everything.

I glance at the headlines just to kind of a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves. But like Condoleezza, in her case, the national security adviser is getting her news directly from the participants on the world stage.

HUME: Has that been your practice since day one, or is that a practice that you've...

BUSH: Practice since day one.

HUME: Really?

BUSH: Yes. You know, look, I have great respect for the media. I mean, our society is a good, solid democracy because of a good, solid media. But I also understand that a lot of times there's opinions mixed in with news. And I...

HUME: I won't disagree with that, sir.

BUSH: I appreciate people's opinions, but I'm more interested in news. And the best way to get the news is from objective sources. And the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what's happening in the world.

HUME: Mr. President, thank you very much.

26. Yeah, but in a sick sort of way, Junior spoke the truth there.
He's absolutely right that a good, solid media helps to strenghthen a good solid democracy. And the best evidence of that is how this country has gone to shit since the media fell under complete control of a handful of corporatist fascists :grr:

24. What is it with Bush telling men they have 'beautiful faces'?
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 08:43 PM by htuttle
Is that the Connecticut version of 'You gots a purdy mouth..."?

on edit:

Apparently, Wonkette collected a number of them:
http://www.wonkette.com/politics/culture-war/the-president-into-more-than-just-a-pretty-face-003637.php

We are starting to get a little worried about the president. To review:

• "BUSH: I get briefed by Andy Card and Condi in the morning. They come in and tell me. In all due respect, you've got a beautiful face and everything."

• "Just two weeks ago, after some fraudulent economic policy rally, Bush looks at and says, 'Look at this guy smiling. What a beautiful face.'"

• "Well, you got a pretty face," told the surprised Mr. Reid. He wasn't done. "You got a pretty face," he said again. "You're a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott anyway."

17. It's a lie, and it's "news"
because even the Bush's are getting nervous about how dumb Georgie has revealed himself to be. It's like his glasses at the SOTU. Pure propoganda. Sorry, idiot... it's too late. We all know better.

19. Of course it's a flipflop
Did anybody hear on Malloy him talking about reading and he was like "uh..." in every thing he was trying to think of. :eyes: I do remember him saying he didn't read newspapers. What a joke. Maybe Laura reads to him and tells him what's going on that she thinks he'd be interested in. :eyes:

21. that he doesn't read was probably a Rovian strategy
Up until the election they wanted him to seem down-home, anti-intellectual to get votes. Now it doesn't matter, so they admit stuff like this.
He also said on Cspan Sunday night that he reads 20 pages out of a book each night at bedtime. He seemed very proud of himself! I don't think he realized how pathetic he looked. Anyone who has to brag about that--and being a president, especially--I don't know. He's not an imbecile, and he's certainly not any sort of intellectual. His ablility to analyze and see nuance is very limited, in my opinion. But he has people skills, evidently.
