Cheney criticized for wearing "snow blower attire" to Auschwitz

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/01/28/auschwitz.ch...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Vice President Dick Cheney raised eyebrows on Friday for wearing an olive-drab parka, hiking boots and knit ski cap to represent the United States at a solemn ceremony remembering the liberation of Auschwitz.

Other leaders at the event in Poland on Thursday marking the 60th anniversary of the death camp's liberation, such as French President Jacques Chirac and Russian President Vladimir Putin, wore dark, formal overcoats and dress shoes or boots.

"The vice president, however, was dressed in the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower," Robin Givhan, The Washington Post's fashion writer, wrote in the newspaper's Friday editions.

Between the somber, dark-coated leaders at the outdoor ceremony sat Cheney, resplendent in a green parka embroidered with his name and featuring a fur-trimmed hood, the laced brown boots and a knit ski cap reading "Staff 2001." "And, indeed, the vice president looked like an awkward boy amid the well-dressed adults," Givhan wrote.

2. I wonder if that's the get-up he wears when he plays those creepy
hunting games in Montana! Let's not forget why he's there in the first place. They'd haul Rummy off if he showed! Since Cheney is his boss, why isn't he culpable for any wrongdoing? Doesn't he, technically, give the order?

4. Since I can't find a pic of the snow shoveling guy from "Fargo"
Mr. Mohra: So, I'm tendin' bar there at Ecklund and Swedlin's last Tuesday and this little guy's drinkin' and he says, "So where can a guy find some action? I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake." And I says, "What kinda action?" and he says, "Woman action, what do I look like?" And I says, "Well, what do *I* look like, I don't arrange that kinda thing," and he says, "I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake," and I says, "Well, this ain't that kinda place."

Officer Olson: Uh-huh.

Mr. Mohra: So he says, "So I get it, so you think I'm some kinda jerk for askin'," only he doesn't use the word jerk.

Officer Olson: I understand.

Mr. Mohra: And then he calls me a jerk and says the last guy who thought he was a jerk was dead now. So I don't say nothin' and he says, "What do ya think about that?" So I says, "Well, that don't sound like too good a deal for him then."

Officer Olson: Ya got that right.

Mr. Mohra: And he says, "Yah, that guy's dead and I don't mean of old age." And then he says, "Geez, I'm goin' crazy out there at the lake."

Officer Olson: White Bear lake?

Mr. Mohra: Well, Ecklund & Swedlin's, that's closer ta Moose Lake, so I made that assumption.

Officer Olson: Oh sure.

Mr. Mohra: So, ya know, he's drinkin', so I don't think a whole great deal of it, but Mrs. Mohra heard about the homicides down here and she thought I should call it in, so I called it in. End o' story.

Officer Olson: What'd this guy look like anyway?

Mr. Mohra: Oh, he was a little guy. Kinda funny lookin'.

Officer Olson: Uh-huh. In what way?

Mr. Mohra: Just a general way.

5. I love that movie!
and Steve busemi and those big brown eyes!

I know, off topic. But that movie makes me happy, and just looking at this picture is to much for me right now. I don't want to start ranting. Lets just call it ofensive and leave it at that.

8. Please explain to me why
...at an even of this monumental global and historical magnitude, why wasn't the Warrior Chimp the one representing the U.S.???
I mean if the position of POTUS means anything at all, it means ceremonies like this. This was NOT a place for a VICE president!

12. Cheney
He came dressed for work so he could walk around and inspect things, get a feel for the place, see how things worked, and make a few notes;
