What do you think? Who WILL be? COULD be? WOULD HAVE been?

JFK, Jr.?

Chris Heinz?

Actor Ben Aflek has political ambition...

Barack Obama, of course...

Here's a name for you: Cathy Cox, secretary of state in GA who polls say could unseat GOP Gov. Sonny Purdue in '06...

Add to the list...

3. didn't say you had to AGREE with anyone's politics
Some dems didn't agree with Clinton in '90-91 but couldn't escape the reality of his status.

At the time before most knew of the perils of Diebold.

Regardless of one's politics or policies, there are some who are vote getters. In GA, Cox is one of them.

41. You of course can't be dumb enough to think I actually suggested it.
You DID notice the wink, right? Since you may have missed it, I'll ignore your "conspiracy theorist" smear.

I don't think she cheated to get into office. I do think she abused her office once she gained it. BIG difference.

... suggesting such a thing, "wink" or no "wink," seems in keeping with the dialogue to that point.

I do think she abused her office once she gained it. BIG difference.

irrelevant to the point of the thread.

9. Great idea
A well spoken minority from the midwest who will be in D.C., along with a well spoken minority from the southwest. Both already have great name recognition, and are more charismatic than other recent candidates. The only potential drawback might be the military angle, but this might even be an asset after the Iraq war. I like Obama, but don't think he's quite ready for President yet. However, if he runs as Richardson's VP, he could set himself up well. It's way too early, but I like your idea a lot.

21. Yeah, he's more than qualified
I also think he could help a lot with states like AZ, NM, and even FL. Getting just one (assuming blue states stay blue, and I don't think any are in play) would win the Presidency. He's definitely had great experience, has both foreign and domestic experience, and has name recognition. I hope the DLC at least considers him. FWIW, I would have taken him over Edwards this time.

30. Many Blue States are in Play

Blue states have enough diversity in their media that both sides get their message out there and discussed. One of the biggest problems we have in the Red states is that local media limits exposure of our message to their readers, listeners or watchers. Spend a little time in a Red state during an election cycle, and it will amaze you just how much news is missing from the local news.

NH swung between elections. Delaware and Vermont are traditionally old school Conservative and could easily be picked up by an old school Conservative Republican. Wisconsin has been narrowly Blue several elections in a row now and getting closer each election. Michigan, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Washington are narrowly Blue.

Fortunately, there are quite a few narrowly Red states as well such as Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico (which just went Red this once), Arizona and Louisiana.

32. Wow, I hadn't realized that
I was referring more to the strongholds like CA, NY, IL, which will always be blue and offer a huge electoral vote base. I'm shocked that MI, OR, and WA are in play, as I had always thought of them as being extremely liberal. PA doesn't surprise me as much, but has become more blue (IIRC) recently. Someone like Richardson would likely make AZ and NM blue, and someone like Warner should be able to get VA/TN/KY. This will sound cliche, but Obama really seems to have the potential to appeal to everyone. Reports from the IL race indicated that he did well with everyone from inner city minorities to rural white farmers to the rich suburbians. It is way too early for me to jump on the Obama '08 bandwagon, but he's one of the few guys I'm excited about.

Read the post. JFK Jr. "would have been."

Affleck was the darling of the indy movie scene until he started making mass appeal movies... kinda what a politician needs, right? Mass appeal.

Of course, we NEVER know who can govern until they're actually elected and with Affleck's interest in politics and his popularity in tow, he would be a serious contender.

26. 100 To Watch
The DLC assembled a list of rising stars during the summer of 2003. Several of the people they cited have already moved on to bigger things. Allyson Schwartz was elected to Congress, Ken Salazar and Barack Obama to the US Senate.

Several of the people on the list are contemplating running for Congress in 2006 or 2008, including Barry Finegold, Peter Sullivan and Stacy Ritter. In addition, Jonathan Miller is expected to make a run for either Governor or US Senate sometime soon.

43. I don't know that
he'd be interested, but imo lawyer, Richard Ben Venute, the Dem attack-dog, is an Ace! He cracked me up with his satirical questioning of Richard Armytage during the 9/11 hearings, turning to his fellow inquisitors on the panel, chortling, as he kept repeating his question about the date he was appointed to replace Rice at the hearing, and watching Armytage squirm evasively. Pure music hall.

He reminded me of one of the best comedians of the thirties and forties, here, called Max Miller. He'd walk up to the stage-apron, talking in hushed, conspiratorial tones to the audience about the stage manager or producer or whatever, his boss, anyway; and looking furtively behind him, at the wings, in case he was about!

I'd hate to miss any of Ben venute's appearances on the box, though I probably do.
