dem nominee in 2008
I'm not a constant politician watcher, so take this for what it may be worth to you.

In 2000-2001, I 'had not heard' much, if anything about Dean, Edwards, Clark, or Kucinich.

The point of this? in a few years there may be very good possibilities that few if any of us have ever heard of.

What we MUST DO: figure out a way to ensure fair and accurate elections and fair and equal access to the media.

Otherwise, SURPRISE, SURPRISE...repeat of 2000. 2002. 2004.

5. Kucinich-Boxer
We need Kucinch becaues he's good on all the issues. He was one of only eight Democrats who opposed the Intelligence Reform Act (Patriot II) in the House.

7. Clark is The One
Wes Clark is the MAN.

I had read his memoir of the Kosovo campaign, "Waging Modern War", long before he jumped into the primaries, and was highly impressed. He is a leader who values diplomacy and international cooperation as the essential means of preventing military conflict. War, he hammers home again and again, must only be viewed as the very LAST of options. The United States MUST recognize that other nations, especially longtime allies like France and Germany, have their own interests that sometimes differ from ours, but should nevertheless be listened to and respected. The key is finding COMMON GROUND between countries and within alliances to find the best means of avoiding/resolving conflicts -- the polar opposite of the arrogant (and disastrous) "Bush Doctrine."

Right-wing generals (Schwarzkopf and the like) HATE Clark because he's an intellectual.

8. It isn't just foreign policy
The American military is socialistic. If one lives by and truly embraces the law in the military, one cannot help but be progressive.

To be sure, there are lefties and righties, and many of the top generals seem very rightie, but far from all of them.

I know this seems dichotomous to some, but think about it. All human needs met. Cradle to grave health care. Housing and food paid. Family assistance in time of crisis. Sure we've broken some of this compact with our military, but that doesn't change the underlying fabric of it.

11. I agree
to be thinking we need to select our candidate now for 08 is nonsense. We need to watch closely and see who does what between now and then, see who rises to the top because of their actions now, during what is surely one of our darker periods.
