Jesusland - (Almost done)
Inspired by that map that was floating around for a while... this is the first rough lyric... but, it's getting close to being frozen. As soon as me and the guys have the tracks down, I'm gonna make it available as another free download for a while... like "Get Out Our House" was before the election.

Then, this song'll go to itunes.

(The Intro: is slow and rubato... but, in a real story-tellin', country music style. Then, from the first chorus on, the groove kicks into a two beat, country, sh*t kickin' song.)

Quick note: It's NOT about Christianity. It's about hypocrisy.

******
.
JESUSLAND
©2005

INTRO:
I'm a new breed of American with quite a lot t'say
As patriotic and religious as y'get.
I'm a brand new kinda Christian, in the good ol' USA
And, ya don't know whut t'make of me quite yet.
You liberal folks are jes too analytical.
Yer called the "intellectual elite".
Ya like to use big words like "hypocritical"
Jes becuz my words and actions hardly meet.

(Spoken)
Well...

CHORUS:
Welcome to Jesusland
We made George Bush the president, so now we can command
That the people in this country live exactly how we planned.
Welcome to Jesusland

VERSE:
Jus look on any dollar bill, it says, "In God we Trust"
So, we ask his help in everythin' we do.
You talk 'bout Freedom of Religion. Reckon that means that we must
Tolerate the atheist and Jew.
But, Jesus is the man, and our salvation.
And, every war we wage is in his name.
We think his Bible should be taught in every nation,
And, we'll bomb anyone who doesn't feel the same.

CHORUS:
Welcome to Jesusland
Where we all love our neighbor,
IF our neighbors understand,
We won't let no goddamed Mexicans across the Rio Grande.
Welcome to Jesusland

VERSE:
George W's a married man, and Laura is his wife,
Of their family values and beliefs we sing.
They're against a woman's right to choose, becuz they're both "PRO Life"
'Course, an execution.... wellllll, that's a 'nuther thing.
George goes to church where he sings from a hymnal,
How Jesus will protect us ALL from harm.
Unless you're a convicted death row crim'nal
Then, I guess he'd stick a needle in yer arm.

Welcome to Jesusland
Where God on high says, "Try to pry... this rifle from my hand."
The Prince of Peace don't want my AK-47 to be banned.
Welcome to Jesusland

Rush Limbaugh is the people's voice, cuz we sure like to listen
To a moral and a real straight-talkin' guy,
Who says crack-smokin' addicts... should all go straight to prison.
We don't care that when he said it he was high.
O'Reilly is another moral beacon.
This married man got no "spin" in his zone.
He's always right... polli-tickly speakin'
Once he's finished talkin' dirty on the phone.

CHORUS:
Welcome to Jesusland
Where we find the Lord in every Walmart, Sears and Disneyland
And, while some may turn the other cheek, we draw lines in the sand.
Welcome to Jesusland

In Jesusland... everyone knows better
It's not a place you liberal folks can find.
It's not a state that's red... or even redder.
Jesusland is just a state of mind!
.
(Big finish)

Jesusland is here to stay!
Don't judge by the way we live, jes live by what we say.
It's Jesus' will to build a neo-Christian U... S... A...
Welcome to Jesuland.

Welcome to Je--sus--laaaaaannnnnnd.

*********
See you at:

7. Muslims...
David here.

No... actually in the original draft, the lyric in the first verse read...

"...tolerate the Muslim and the Jew."

Until it occurred to me that these hard-line, so-called Christians in the right wing actually HATE Muslims, and understand nothing about Islam. So, I addressed it by suggesting they "tolerate" atheism and Judaism, but...

" ...think the Bible should be taught in every nation,
And, we'll bomb anyone who doesn't feel the same."

Yeah, I'd say bombing someone constitutes hatred, don't you?

Not a case of ignoring your point. Just an artistically different way of getting at it.

14. Pointed...
The point is to shine a light on the outrageous hypocrisy of that mindset, and the bizarre disconnect so many Americans are capable of these days. But, it's also designed to p*ss off the people who voted for George W. Bush, yet still might have a molecule of reason in their being. Hopefully, it'll strike a nerve with anyone who adheres, even a little, to Christian ideals but has somehow shut that down in the face of their own fear.

The rest of those... well... the people this song is really about... aren't moveable one way or the other. In my experience, ignorance combined with that kind of arrogance is immoveable.

Besides... it's satire, man. The song got a wild reception the when I sprung it on a crowd downtown last week.

And, yeah.,.. the song is easy to take the wrong way.

I'm kinda counting on it.

Wanna make a little noise. When it gets to itunes... I hope it gets accidentally discovered by people looking for a tune about Jesus.

16. That's why Tim Robbins never released the soundtrack to "Bob Roberts"
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 09:04 PM by impeachdubya
Great satire that could easily be co-opted by the O'Reilly's of the world. Still, hysterically funny songs. We can't help it if the residents of Dumbfuckistan are so stupid they parody themselves...

15. Gotta 'nuther one fer ya ! Check out this one "Vote Fraud in Ohio"
New lyrics to the CSN&Y song "Ohio"
at http://www.oilempire.us/stolenelection2004.html

"Vote Fraud in Ohio"
by Mark Robinowitz

Lost ballots and Diebold's counting
We're finally on our own
This winter I hear Bush laughing
Vote Fraud in Ohio

Gotta get real ballots
Paperless taking us down
Should have been done long ago
Keep blacks from voting and
TV won't make a sound
Kerry won, but he said no.

Vote Fraud in Ohio
Vote Fraud in Ohio
Vote Fraud in Florida

18. Fine parody
Nice.

I'm pleased Barbara Boxer stood up. I'm gonna listen to the objection process in the House with great interest. Once again it will be telling to see how each network news organization covers it.

20. Kinda hopin'...
I'm kinda hopin', when it gets to itunes, that it gets accidentally downloaded by some of these people.

If they try to get it pulled from itunes, that would be a good thing. Time to make a little noise.

But, first things first.

I'll let you all know when it will be available to you guys for FREE at:

http://www.thatguitarman.com

In about 2 weeks, I'd say.

"Get Out Our House" was a free download before the election and we heard back from 43 states and 5 European countries... thousands of downloads.

I'm hoping for hundreds of thousands for "Jesusland". Gotta get the word out. Gotta get people THINKING again.

We'll see.

Hey! I'm jumpin' in.

Gonna start stirring the pot. Gonna start trying to rankle Fox and Clear Channel and Sinclair.... Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity. As Bill Moyers says, they are the real danger... the corporate and neo-conservative takeover of mass media.

So...

Jesusland
Where'dat Money Go
Common Ground
Tired of Being Lied To
My Morning Coffee
Crazy on the Same Day

Just wanna let you know...

If you live in or around New York City... the next concert is booked for March 4th at Columbia Artists Management (Cami) Hall
