Dean Supporter Secretly Glad Dean Didn't Win Iowa
I have a confession to make as a Dean supporter. A part of me is kind of glad he came in third. Yes, I know that this part of me isn't exactly the brightest part of my psyche.

See, if Dean would have won Iowa, even by the slimmest of margins, he would have had even more negativity heaped upon him here. Look, he came in third and there are still many threads dishing dirt on the guy, imagine how bad it would be if he would have come in first? I can say with a good amount of certainty that those in opposition to Dean wouldn't have backed off a bit in a moment of reconsideration, instead taking the opportunity to launch a whole new slew of attacks against Dean.

I personally needed this reprieve from the volume of vileness. The amount that I'm seeing today is still nearly too much to handle or, quite honestly, to take seriously.

1. Dean's not running for president of DU. I wouldn't gauge the effectiveness

of the campaign by counting the negative Dean posts here.

7. The negative attacks are a great guage
The trolls and freeper sock puppet attacks are a very good sign that Dean has knocked over a hornet's nest of special interest, jaded insiders and bloated corporate whores. This is a mean fight and not for sissys.

See the following article on how they went after Clinton in 1992:
Ominous Polls:
A look at the Gallup polls over the past few months show why Democrats are becoming increasingly nervous about putting Clinton at the head of their ticket.
In a head-to-head match up on March 20, Bush led by only 52-43 percent and Clinton was indeed within striking range. But as the weekly disclosures took their toll during the ensuing primaries, Clinton's margin fell to 54-38 percent on March 29 and then fell further to 54-34 by the beginning of April.
Edit ...
"The negatives are forming on Bill Clinton like a political stalactite, drop by drop," said veteran Democratic consultant David Sawyer. "Each drip leaves a residue that builds on his negative image."

2. He's going to have dirt thrown on him win or lose.
He has come to symbolize the angry Democrat, and for that he must be sacrificed.

3. Do you *really* think Dean has NOTHING to do with the dirt heaping?
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 11:49 AM by tjdee
This is an honest question.

Are you saying that you can't *possibly* imagine *why* people are discussing Dean after his speech last night? The going sentiment of some Dean supporters seems to be that non-Deaners snatch up any little thing and try to make hay of it--but is the sentiment today that last night's speech was a tiny little thing?

Why is this "amount of vileness" "too much to handle"? The opinions of others may not be what you want to hear, but I am at a loss to how it is "vile" to express those opinions. The people at DU aren't the only people in the world who saw that speech. For better or worse.

4. What's wrong with an "Angry Democrat"
I consider myself to be an "Angry Democrat" and it bothers me that there aren't a lot more Angry people of all stripes out there based on what Bush and his Gang of Thieves have done to this country. As a country, we seem disturbingly willing to just bend over and take it from Bush Inc.

We are NOT going to beat Bush this fall by putting a Barney suit on Kerry and singing "I Love You, You Love Me" at the Convention.

On a seemingly contradictory note: If Dean blows off again like he did last night, I think he needs to write himself a prescription for something. Way TOO Animated!

5. Nothing--but you nailed it yourself.
Angry Dems are fine as long as the anger is controlled. There seems to be different opinions as to whether that was the case last night.

6. On last night, I do agree....
But all we've heard for the last month is that Dean is an "Angry Man". I found his anger a positive thing compared to candidates like Gephardt who did everything as Minority Leader but send Bush candy and flowers.

Again, I agree with you, if what we saw last night is a "New Dean", I may need to hang back a bit.
