Soldiers are finally asking questions...
I wonder how MSM will cover this? Soldiers are starting to ask the tough questions. I'm wondering too what kind of idotic comment my repuke uncle w/ make about this during Christmas dinner!

"CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait - After delivering a pep talk designed to energize troops preparing to head for Iraq, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld got a little “talking to” himself from disgruntled soldiers. But a Pentagon spokesman characterized the exchange, about a shortage of armed vehicles, as "upbeat."

5. Rummy isn't in any danger
of having to dig through any dump sites any time soon. I'd sure like to see the political cartoon's show him doing it in every paper though! This is what it takes to change the minds of the many kool-aid drinkers out there! Bring it on Rummy! Show your true colors to all those soldiers and their families! Let's see how long they sit on their hands and bite their tongues!

3. Upbeat?

The Pentagon may as well have said "Up yours" to the troops...
same difference. And, I'm sure those in attendance at Rummy's
talk understood.

6. OOPS! MSM coming dangerously close to allowing TRUTH
to come out here! MUST STOP MSM! MUST STOP MSM!

Actually I heard this on Democracy Now this morning and was shocked to see that AP and MSNBC picked it up.

Notice how they keep backpedaling after the fact, too. Just like trying to redebate a lost debate.

With a 420 BILLION dollar budget there is no excuse to send our troops in without the proper armor on their vehicles or their bodies.

I have a work friend who went there with the guard. The GPS systems the government spent a fortune having manufactured worked for shit. Guys ended up buying their own which were much cheaper and more reliable.

7. I signed on just to discuss this topic.... Rummy is a bastard!
I was "whoohooing" when I watched the news on this "exchange". I was ecstatic that our troops finally spoke up. I am a bit worried about the man that did it though; will he be "retired" ...hmmm

Weren't the rest of the troops cheering as well? Yessssssssss

I'm hearing stories from all over the place regarding the dissatisfaction of our military personnel. Some are suing because of the "stop loss" shit, others are deserting in droves (approx. 5500), others are coming home to homelessness and mental stress. A story I heard over KGO last evening was about a female soldier and her 15 yr old daughter were living on the streets!! Another Canadian called in to say he picked up a lone man in the freezing cold at night along the trans Canada pike. The young man was from Calif. He didn't want to go to Iraq. The kind hearted Canadian picked him up, drove him to a large truck stop (the young American was not dressed for winter, his ear was starting to freeze), helped the American get connected with a trucker going back west and gave the guy a coat etc.. The stories are unending now. BUCK FUSH!! :nuke:

Not only is the war illegal and screwed up in it's planning but our soldiers are starting to say ENOUGH. Then we have them coming back to less than adequate "reentry" programs, losing their jobs. They send them to do some fucked up shit then don't supply their basic military needs to accomplish their job.

Don't you just love the answer Rummy gave to our military personnel? What a @#%&*$!@#*+^% POS he is!! WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING then??
Rummy: just go to war, get killed and suck it up. We will give you equipment when/if we feel like it?????????

I hope the bulk of these unwilling, disgruntled military personnel just WALK OFF THE JOB.

I've heard there are orgs. that pledge to help deserters and other soldiers having a tough time with enlistment. If anyone knows where these websites are, I'd like to participate...write, support, whatever. Veteran's for Peace may be one... Any info is welcome.
I'm sick to death of this goddamned war, mistreatment, and slaughter.. We and the Iraqi are being "murdered" in more ways than one. It has to stop!

8. it all comes down to poor planing for this invasion --and now rummy
gets to stay on in the administration to complete his 'transformative" military. Rummy did not understand the Arab world before we went in and still does not understand.

12. Exactly!
Since he aided the sale of the gas and other off beat "weapons" to Saddam, you'd think he WOULD get a clue about the middle east. What a numbnuts. How many years does it take for a person to LEARN about what their dealing with???? This jackass has been in and out of politics for decades!

The absolute AUDACITY of Rummy today just shows how much this administration DOESN'T CARE about one freaking thing except their own private agenda.

Our country is being led by incompetent Murderers, Criminals, and by sociopaths!! These folks belong in the world court if any one does.

A pox on all their houses!!

9. Olberman covered it well- A WP reporter said
that this sure didn't fit with the WH mssg of morale for the week.

He also had ret. Gen MacCafferty (?) who stood up for the soldiers asking questions.

My hope is that enough of the story filters through to break the taboo about criticism coming from the ranks.

11. I'm curious. Wasn't his remarks an admission of incompetence? If
I had a dead soldier from this, I would sue him for incompetence and use this as the centerpiece.

15. 2004 Army campaign donations
I was looking at opensecrets.org and I noticed of the army donations, 47% went to democrats, 53% went to republicans. http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.asp?Ind=W

That's way better than what it should have been, based on the military being 57% republican, and the officers (who should have the most money to donate) being 66% republican, according to published polls: http://www.lewrockwell.com/ips/lobe43.html

If you scroll through the US Navy donations for this election, you'll see an awful lot of democrats, also.

The 2000 defense department donations were also split fairly evenly - 48% dems, 51% republicans.

This makes me think we're being completely scammed on the whole concept of the military being mainly right-wing Bush supporters.
