Get to know the enemy.
Earlier I posted on my blog.
(-snip-)In a nation where almost 120 million citizens cast ballots, a victory margin of three million is not that significant. Lydon Johnson defeated Berry Goldwater in 1964 by a much wider percentage, Richard Nixon crushed George McGovern in 1972 and Bill Clinton, even though he garnered only 47% of the popular vote, beat Robert Dole by a nearly 8 million votes.

Yet, already the Repiglican press is treating the figure of Bush getting 51% of the vote as some sort of mythical mandate. I noticed on the Today Show this morning that the newsreaders are chanting 51% as if repeating this number will lend some sort of air of legitimacy to our ersatz-cowboy king's second term. I'm sure in the weeks and months ahead that Democrats will be throwing around the 3 million vote figure while Repiglicans will be chanting 51% as if that magically expunges all doubt about the slim their god-king's slim margin of victory.

(-snip-)Somewhere I read that, and I can't readily come up with the reference, adherents of Christian Reconstructionism hold that it is permissible, in order to fulfill their mission of an Old Testment and faith-based society, to lie to unbelivers if it results in doing God's work, whatever that may be.

So what I posit may have happened with some of the early exit-polls is that "Christians" simply lied about whom they had voted for when questioned. (-snip-)

Of course, "spoiled" ballots, as Greg Palast writes in TomPaine.com contributed to Bush's victory. But, as you can see, I don't think that's the whole story behind the early exit-polls showing Kerry ahead in Ohio.

We must never think that for a minute that Bush and his Repiglican hoards will ever compromise on anything. Christian Reconstructionism is a threat to our American democracy and should be treated as such.
