4. Pressure on the media, as when Michael Savage was on MSNBC.
As outrageous as his final self-destructive rant was, I don't know if they'd've fired him for it if they hadn't already been under fire themselves for giving that bigot a showcase for his vicious beliefs.

And successful prank calls to push those wannabe fascists' buttons and get them to reveal just how extreme they are can be useful, too. See http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/07/09/MN158024.DTL .

These RW creeps should be monitored -- yeah, I know, nasty job but someone has to do it (and thank God for David Brock and Media Matters). And it wouldn't be a bad idea to see if we can enlist local groups such as churches in petitions asking that RW hosts preaching hate be taken off the air on local stations.

Liberal talk will grow immensely in the coming years. My pick for the biggest star of all of them? Ed Schultz. He's on almost all of the AAR affiliates in the big cities, and he's also on many stations in small town and rural areas. And he's entertaining without being nasty. As I've described him, he's comfort food radio. Just enjoyable to listen to, and I think he will become a big star, even bigger than Franken.

But I say let's develop talent to go toe-to-toe with the wingnut radio guys, and let the marketplace decide. THAT'S the mandate!
