Stay Away From the Overheated Rhetoric of Defeat

We're not all going to be sent to Gitmo. We're not going to be "rounded up".

America isn't "over". America isn't "finished". Yes the next four years will really suck. But laws can be reversed. A Supreme Court can be fought with a majority in Congress.

Kerry won a lot of votes yesterday. There is base from which to work for a real victory in 2006 and 2008. The pendulum will swing back.

We've had two rough elections - a bad three years - but we are also still living under the shadow of 9/11. Think about Goldwater's defeat (everyone said the conservatives were over). Think about Nixon's reelection, and subsequent impeachment (it led to the Dem majorities in Congress through the eighties).

As Bob Dylan said - "the slow one now will later be fast."

America is still the land of hope.
