Confederate Theocracy: What I saw last night in Pensacola

The local CBS affiliate reported that one polling station in Escambia County would not close until after midnight.

They did a live report.

They showed hundreds of college-aged youths standing in line waiting to enter the poll. At first I was elated, but then I realized...

...the poll was located at Pensacola Christian College.

All these kids were fundies. They were singing hymns, chanting prayers and waving B/C signs. Most wore B/C shirts and sported B/C buttons. They were taking their B/C gear into the poll without challange

...and they were harassing Kerry voters.

One woman said they surrounded her and called her a sinner. They did this to anyone they suspected of being a Kerry supporter. Many Kerry voters simply couldn't take it and left.

The deputy sheriff that stood at the end of the voter line did not intervene.

Asked what she was going to do about it, the woman replied she was going to asked the Supervisors of Elections office to change her polling location. She could never vote there again.

This is W Nation folks.

Christian values trump all other issues.

unfortunate, but true.

I am now prejudiced. I am one of those horrible people I've always stood against. I have always been proud of myself as someone who did not judge, who always believed all people are essentially good, equal, etc. But now I'm prejudiced against fundies. I hate them. I want them to form their own country in Alabama and leave me alone.

sadly I must concur. They are not all like that up there but that is generally rightwing religious wacko country. :(

Nothing you described represents "Christian values". It represents bigotry, ignorance and fanaticism. "Christian values" as used by the religious/political right wing is a smoke screen for fascism. Anyone using this terminology should be viewed as a fascist until proved otherwise.

8. These people are no different from Osama Bin Laden

They represent different Relegions, but in levels of fanaticism they are equal. One would argue however that these folks don't resort to violence..but THEY DO.

By condoning the actions and supporting a man who has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of innocents, and also by proclaming him to be a man of God(??), they have taken responsibility for the deaths of more human beings than Osama.
