By ten points, 46-36 percent voters say OBL tape helps Kerry...
This is from a call today that Greenberg, Devine, Donilon, Lockhart had - read on, this is very encouraging and confirms some thoughts that I have been having regarding the OBL tape.

From the phone call transcript just released:

Let me just mention that, as part of that, and we're very cautious about this - we added a question - this poll was intended to be fielded independent of the events - we added a question this morning that was only in the 250 interviews that was conducted on Saturday and I read it just to try to suggest that we ought to be a little bit cautious in interpreting what we think will be the consequence of these events.

We read following question:

I'm going to read you paraphrasement about Osama Bin Laden's videotape - this is a poll that was conducted by Democracy Corps, I'm going to read you a paraphrasement about the release of Bin Laden's videotape, please tell me what comes closer to your view: One, it makes me think that George W. Bush took his eye of the ball in Afghanistan and diverted his resources to Iraq; Two, it underscores the importance of George Bush's approach to terrorism

By ten points, 46-36 percent, voters responding to the survey agreed with the first statement , rather than the second.

2. I could tell at the beginning that the RW felt it was bad for them.
They did not have a handle on how to try to spin it.
Looks like the American public is not so spinnable.

3. I hate to admit it but that's called Push Polling
They should have just asked if it helped or didn't help Bush. Buy this statement:

One, it makes me think that George W. Bush took his eye of the ball in Afghanistan and diverted his resources to Iraq

Thats classic push polling and I am sure if influenced how they would have initially answered. I sure hope it didn't influence it much and I hope they do it all over the country to get people thinking.

6. yeah, but you realize that...

They are a dem polling company and want to test statements to see how the public reacts.

Then, Kerry will go out on the stump and say the high rated statements(actually, he's talked about taking the eye off of OBL for a while). no big deal.

9. unfortunately, you are correct
now if they would use it in a last minute ad blitz -- take the osama vid and juxtapose it with shrub saying "frankly, i don't care where he is" or something

at a minimum they should have rotated the order of the questions. anyone know if they did?

10. Not a valuable poll. It may be correct that it has hurt Shrub, but
this poll won't tell that tale.

14. no. as i said above, they are testing the phrase for Kerry
He uses it alot in rallies (or similar ones) and they are testing to see what the effect is.

If it wasn't valueable, they wouldn't have phrased it like that.

4. You mean, Osama Bin Laden is not Saddam Hussein?
Some Bush supporters were sure that these were one and the same. Why else would Bush go to war against Iraq? Now suddenly it may be dawning on them that Iraq did not attack us; we started this war!
Some will abandon Bush, and Kerry will win comfortably, IMHO.

12. this helps Kerry
It reminds voters that Bush has failed to avenge the murders of 3000 citizns while he gallivanted around Iraq chasing Daddy's nemesis from the Nineties.

It's a plus for Kerry. Might push a few undecideds in his direction. After all, has Bush apprehended Osama? No. Not only that but Bush has made several candid statements on the record that he doesn't think Osama is all that important. Bad idea to air this publicly.

I hope Kerry picks this up like a 2x4 and hits Bush with it.
