A Bush supporter with whom I've had an ongoing online argument, actually said:
" know you disagree with his policies...but the hate seems to run so deep. If we ever are going to be united, we have to get to a point where we disagree minus the hate. The candidate you support talks about bringing people together...other than uniting to hate George Bush how will he and the democrats do that if this is all they put out? Come Tuesday, I hope however this election goes, people will stop being such haters and decide that our desire to have a strong country is stronger than our hate for either of these 2 candidates..."
Now, this person is obviously clueless about the hate coming from the GOP side of the fence. She's also clueless that the "hate" she sees coming from the Kerry supporters is because of things like the SwiftVets, Sinclair, Blackwell in Ohio, lost absentee ballots in Florida, and all the other dirty tricks of Karl Rove and his minions, not to mention the horrific incompetence and dishonesty of Bush. They actually think that it's WRONG for us to work at registering voters in poor neighborhoods and working at GOTV. They think it's right to have someone at every polling place to contest "questionable" voters, to purge voter rolls of "suspected felons", etc.
Anyway, I agree that we have to work to help Kerry win by as big a margin as possible, both to ensure that he wins no matter what dirty tricks they pull, and to hopefully slap some sense into them and make them realize that yes, MOST of the people in the US think your guy should get fired. Maybe you should take the blinders off for a day and see why.
