Some of Florida's county election supervisors might not be able to count all the absentee ballots flooding into their offices on Election Day. If that happens, election results could be delayed Nov. 2.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, Lee County voters had requested 63,849 absentee ballots. That's about 21 percent of the 306,000 ballots that could be cast by registered voters here, and a significant increase over previous elections.

<>Counties across the state, including Lee and Collier, will begin opening and verifying the paper absentee ballots Friday. They'll begin automated tabulation of the paper ballots as soon as possible.

They are read by a machine

4. I thought absentee ballots weren't counted until election day. Perhaps it

is up to the discretion of the individual Supervisors of Election in Florida?
