So I had to put up a 4th Kerry sign this weekend
My 3rd was stolen.

It was one that I put into a strong metal frame, enclosed with Plexiglas, hammered into the ground to its base with an iron mallet, and coated with Crisco and WD-40.

Those bastards won't deny me my constitutional rights!

So....I put in a new sign with the same configuration and added a hidden ground anchor connected to the sign with a piece of 1/8 inch metal rope. I buried the anchor and rope so that when pulling it out of the ground, they will get a nice snap back. They will have to take a while longer to get the anchor and metal rope out of the ground.

All the while, my new hidden security camera next to the sign will catch their every movement on tape so I can hand it over to the authorities and news stations.

Bwaaaaa Haaaaa!

My wife says I am obsessing. Yeah, what of it?

2. I had my car bumper dented where my "Re-defeat BUSH" bumper sticker sits
I wonder if it was done by a repug?

5. Heehee!
As I was on my knees in the dark screwing the anchor into the ground (in the dark because I didn't want them to see what I was doing!), my wife comes outside, stands over me, and begins to shake her head.

Her: "You're going to get us killed."

Me: "Nah."

Her: "That's all you've got? 'Nah'?"

Me: "Yep"

Her: "I'm going to go write a prescription for you now." (She's a psychiatrist)

Me: "Make it a good one! Can you hand me the camera before you go in?"

6. Stick to your guns.
So far, our sign is untouched (but then, it is in the iddle of the yard and not close to the sidewalk). But there has been a lot of sign vandalism here (Philly burbs).
Just today, the Inqy had an article about this. And a local woman tried to get both parties to pledge to condemn sign theft and damage. Guess which party would not participate.
The PA State Police ha said that stealing signs, or booby-trapping them, is against the law. So, you have to be careful when defending your free speech rights.
A neighbor had several standard signs in his yard. He also had a hand-made one that was a birthday present from his young daughter. It had the "Village Idiot" message. It was painted onto wood and planted fairly securely. Some repuke obviously had targetted it and planned the theft, because it was too secure for a random drive-by.
Good luck. I think things are only going to get worse, much worse, as this last week creeps by.

7. I wanted to booby-trap it
but thought better of it.

I thought about putting a piece of double sided tape on the bottom of the frame and rubbing it into glass shards. But, I'm sure an idiot Bush supporter would tear up his hands while trying to steal my sign and then sue me for it.

So, I didn't do it. Also, I have this respect for people's well-being thing that always gets in my way! Damn it.

8. Write "Thou Shall Not Steal"
with a Sharpie marker on each side of the sign. My friend did that after her first sign was stolen. She lives in a rural area populated by newly wealthy right-wing nuts along with a native population of old-fashioned religous Dixiecrats. I'd bet that the sign stealers are the same ones with the very popular 10 commandments signs in their yards. Damn hypocrites.

10. I've had a number of signs
stolen or defaced. I'd love to set up some boobie traps or cameras to catch whoever is doing it and giving it to the police.
