I took a day off work to phonebank for him, and went to a rally with Danny Glover and lots of big name Dems who were fighting to keep him in. The unions did a lot of work for him.

6. davis endorsed kerry during the primaries

I can't find a link, but my recollectionis that Davis endorsed Kerry sometime last winter, saying that he was proud to stand with a fellow veteran.

7. I saw Gray Davis at a Kerry fundraiser last month.

So, I sure doubt it.

The wildfire bit makes sense. Too bad, during that period Gray showed a lot of leadership for the state, at least, I thought so.

And, in person, he and his wife were really nice.
