Kerry Urges Voters to Reject Bush Tactics

PUEBLO, Colo. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry urged voters on Saturday to reject President Bush's scare tactics and support his optimistic outlook as the candidates disagreed over who could best fight terrorist threats.

"Vote your hopes, not the fears that George Bush wants you to feel," Kerry said. "Vote your hopes for our nation. Vote the possibilities of our country."

Kerry made the appeal, tossing in a few words of Spanish, at one stop on a swing through Southwestern states that included Nevada and New Mexico. The Massachusetts Democrat signaled he would not shy away from a fight with Bush over his national security credentials.

"It's time for us to join together, to unite America, to come together around the ideals and hopes and aspirations of the American people, not the fears," Kerry said.
