reporting from DC: Democratic National Commitee Headquarters

today, I volunteered at the DNC National Headquarters in OUR NATION'S CAPITAL....the mood there is HARD WORK, HARD WORK and more HARD WORK....interspersed with jokes, funny comments and occasional laughing OUT LOUD....we're winning !!!! KERRY is on his way to the President of the USA !!!

Everyone feels it now in their hearts and minds, as they work HARD, the BIG PUSH to the finish line....

phones are ringing everywhere....people are being put on HOLD...faxes are rolling, emails are moving, computers are humming.....everyone is working.....students, interns, volunteers....humming away....with a very serious mood, broken up occasionally by volunteers like ME...walking in with my "We will KERRY Virginia" t-shirt...which bought a round of applause and inquiries from the people in the cubicles....and people were LOL about the bush* joke: "what's the difference between the Iraq War and the Vietnam war?....bush* figured how to get out of the Vietnam War !"

an amazing group of people are working at the DNC National Headquarters....mostly all volunteers, from ALL OVER AMERICA, some have been here in DC for a YEAR !, staying with volunteer hosts in the DC area....I met a woman from Colorado, an 'intern' from Pittsburg, a student from the state of Washington, a man from Georgia, and many more....it's very uplifting....

my job for today was to sort forms for the donations, punch holes in each sheet and file alphabetically, to keep track of the records....and there it all is...AMERICA....small donations from retirees in Florida, $20 cash from a soldier in Colorado Springs....people hoping for a BETTER America...people who BELIEVE in America...people who want NO WAR and a better future....it's very inspirational just to file the donations, from REAL people with REAL HOPE....

some donations were specifically designated for 'swing states', some said this was all they had, but their prayers are with us....everyone huddled around to look at a BIG donation from Garrison Keillor, an American Patriot.....almost all donations were modest and from all over AMERICA...and as I filed the donations, from Salida, from Council Bluffs, from Traverse City, from Rochester, from Lexington, from Gallup, from Elephant Butte, from Lakeland, from ALL OVER AMERICA....this is AMERICA....it is not a CORPORATION, it is WE THE PEOPLE....

so much Patriotism, so much hard work for a better America, a stronger America....so many Americans still grinding away in their cubicals and shared office spaces at 8 PM on a Friday night...because we KNOW, that if we keep on working and keep on trucking...WE WILL WIN....quietly working, steady now....as I left, I wanted to know where the VICTORY party was in DC....they told me, it's not in DC, it's in BOSTON....but, but, but....what about all those in DC....no, they said, we have no extra money, and we'll just quietly go home knowing that we did good work, we don't need a party.....

PLEASE.....everybody here and all across America...KEEP TRUCKING !!! KEEP working, volunteering and donating funds....KEEP FIGHTING....to VICTORY....only a few more days, but the BIG push needs muscle to push across the finish line and BOOT THOSE CRIMINALS OUT.....

as I walked out in the dark to the Metro-Train stop, there were some homeless Veterans laying there with their trash bags and dirty blankets and temperatures dropping into the 40's tonight, just a few blocks from the Capital Building of the United States....and I thought about what we were doing at the DNC, because OUR hopes are also the HOPE for the homeless Veterans and for every America....

here's the links to VOLUNTEERING...the time is NOW !!!! STAND UP and take back OUR Country !!!

1. Amen! Amen1234
What a truly uplifting sentiment and thank you so much for sharing that with us...a subtle reminder of what it really is all about... working for this campaign and our hope for our future in this country.

And he's coming here tomorrow! Loading up the kids (Kids for Kerry), and road-tripping down to Pueblo. Can't wait!

8.  Go PUEBLO, Colorado.....

from the volunteers at the DNC in OUR Nation's Capital...to the beautiful town of Pueblo, Colorado (home to Colorado Fuel and Iron Works Steel Mill, gateway to the Rocky Mountains)....we're right behind YOU, in helping your rally to be a GREAT BIG SUCCESS....

thanks to all Americans, those rolling up their sleeves and helping out...if everyone helps just a LITTLE BIT, this big war-profiteering, corporate-greed cabal will FALL....because there is only a few of them, and there are MANY MANY MANY of us....Go Pueblo....get out there and CHEER !!!!!

5. Beautiful sentiments, eloquently expressed
I shudder to think what the atmosphere is like over at the RNC with all the hate and negativity and bile floating through the air. . .

13. in 2000, it was "don't complain if you didn't vote", in 04 it's don't
complain if you didn't volunteer.

Awesome summary.

19. some IDEAs for making that "little" effort....PLEASE add YOUR ideas here
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 12:29 PM by amen1234
these next few days are critical to the future of OUR country....

here are some ideas of "little" but meaningful efforts that YOU can make, in YOUR own neighborhood....often, it's these "little" efforts that MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.....

1. display Kerry signs/banners/bumperstickers/buttons/t-shirts and the same for YOUR LOCAL Democratic candidates....these advertisements give courage to others, and encourage others to vote for OUR candidates....and we WIN !!!

2. download flyers and info sheets on the ISSUES from the Kerry, DNC and YOUR local candidate's web sites....take an ISSUE info sheet over to YOUR neighbor's house, or YOUR after-church meeting, or the parking lot at YOUR shopping center, or YOUR local coffee shop...talk about the ISSUEs with people, even with ONE person....if YOU can help ONE PERSON to vote for KERRY.....we WIN !!!!

3. ask people if they are going to VOTE.....especially SENIORS....and ask if they need help getting to the polling place...many seniors are fragile, and are especially afraid maybe of crime in the neighborhood, maybe that they will fall, maybe they don't drive anymore and are housebound....but YOU can help....many seniors appreciate a visit about their POLITICAL issues and some company...certain times are less busy, people with disabilities can get assistance.....if YOU accompany just ONE senior to VOTE, help them get in the car, drive them to the polling place....we WIN !!!

4. join your neighborhood group to make "GET OUT THE VOTE" phone calls...these are calls to make certain that people REMEMBER that Tuesday, November 2nd is the VOTE (and some people actually do forget in their hectic schedule, not everyone is as connected as DUers are)....during the primaries, most people that I called were delighted that I reminded them of the DATE, and the PLACE, and the HOURS of the VOTE, and thanked me for calling....a lot of calling can be done LOCALLY, right from YOUR HOME....contact your State and LOCAL DNC and Kerry offices, and get on the PHONE.....if you make even 10 phone calls....we WIN !!!!

5. hand out Kerry and local candidate's brochures/downloaded ISSUE info sheets off the web pages AT YOUR LOCAL BUS-STOPS and subway stops during rush hours.....you'll meet a LOT of nice working people who are so busy, they haven't had the time to think about it...but YOU can make that difference....if you hand out 20 sheets about Kerry and local candidates...we WIN !!!!

6. join up in the BIGGER groups...there are KERRY offices in EVERY STATE, there are LOCAL Democratic Candidates in EVERY STATE, there are Democratic National Committee (DNC) offices/coordinators in EVERY STATE...and YOUR help is needed in these last few days....if YOU can help.....we WIN !!!!

7. donations are always needed and always put to good use, especially in these last few days, the FINAL DASH to the finish line....if you have even a few extra dollars, DONATE...donate to special interest advertisers, donate to Kerry/DNC, donate to YOUR local candidates....every single donations helps....and we WIN !!!

Thanks to everyone here at DU....roll up YOUR sleeves for the FINAL DASH to the KERRY PRESIDENCY of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.....

here's some good web sites, to download 'ISSUE info sheets' and find YOUR local volunteers, and roll up YOUR sleeves for a 'little' effort...if EVERYONE helps just a "little" bit....we WIN !!!!
