Why you shouldn't vote Nader even in "safe" states
Even if Kerry only needs to win a majority of the electoral vote, it is critically important that he also win the popular vote. A plurality will suffice, but our goal should be an outright majority. Sure, the press never dwelled on the fact that Bush lost the popular vote, but don't expect the press to give Kerry a pass.

1. The press, employ a double standard?
The press and republicans employ a double standard?

NEVER!

Seriously, good point. I can't even imagine the hell the press would put Kerry through if he pulled a shrub and won the electoral and failed the popular. (Of course, can you imagine the story if it went down EXACTLY like shrubya's--preventing the recounts, the supreme court, et. al? Holy smokes the repugs would be tearing the country up!)

2. There are NO safe Nader states.
That's propaganda put out by the Nader campaign in an attempt to achieve respectable numbers. People fell for it in 2000. We got Bush.

4. I agree. Anyway, why encourage the loathsome little twit?
Nader in no way deserves a vote. The only justification for voting for him would have been if he were still affiliated with the Green party and one wanted to get them more ballot access and visibility and funds. But he's not, so don't.

5. I disagree
I think the critical thing is how *low* Bush's percentage is, not how high Kerry's is.

That said, I see no reason for people who won't vote Kerry to choose Nader over a real third-party candidate.

6. As a Texan, I was told my vote didn't count in 2000.
I admit that I wasn't following politics that closely. Of course I didn't want my idiot Governor to become President. But I do have moments of wishing the Democrats were less like Republicans--especially our Texas Democrats. And Texas was going for Bush, no matter what.

So I considered voting for Nader. For about 10 minutes. As Election Day drew near, Nader kept campaigning in the battleground states. When the time came, I gladly voted for Gore.

It turns out nobody's vote counted--except for those on the Supreme Court. But when the popular vote was added up, I was very proud that mine was a vote for Gore.
