AP: Kerry conceding West Virginia

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John Kerry and the Democratic Party are running more commercials than President Bush and the Republican National Committee so far this week in many of the 14 states where both sides are concentrating their television advertising.

But the Democratic advantage probably will be fleeting. Both campaigns are adjusting their advertising now that the race has entered the homestretch.

Soon, Kerry and his party are likely to pull their ads out of West Virginia media markets that don’t bleed into adjacent states. The campaign no longer considers it a target state because Bush has opened a wide lead, a senior official familiar with Kerry’s strategy said Thursday.

The race is now focused on 10 states: Florida, Ohio, Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Minnesota. While Michigan, Oregon and Maine still are seeing heavy levels of advertising from both sides, those states appear to be leaning toward Kerry.

3. I saw this coming and it's perfectly normal
The polls in WVA haven't been going Kerry's way. He's been slipping there, unlike all of the rest of the battleground states. This is just part of the natural order of a presidential race. Bush has all but conceeded Michigan and Pennsylvania, despite what the media and their campaign would tell you. Kerry is focusing resources on the many states that are still in play. A wise move.

9. I think West Va
could be winnable, but it requires lots of time & money.

Every campaign has to make choices on where to concentrate their resources.

Perhaps the electoral vote does not justify the effort.

If ads are not cost beneficial put some foot-work into it and grind it out. Door to door. Supermarkets, farmers' markets, coal mines, hospitals, get Byrd stumping!!
