Dick Cheney Himself Spoke Of His Daughter Being A Lesbian
Edited on Thu Oct-14-04 07:05 AM by ruggerson
just a few weeks ago at a town hall meeting in Davenport, Iowa.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/08/25/MNGHQ8DV6Q1.DTL

Imus was on this AM saying that "i've never heard Dick Cheney referring to his gay daughter".

WRONG, Imus. Cheney spoke of it when asked about gay marriage.

The way to defuse this homophobic crap about Mary Cheney being an issue here is to simply spread the word that Cheney himself brought it up first.

Anyone want to email Imus and let him know he's wrong?

Why is it ok for Cheney to bring it up in a public setting and not Kerry?

2. Well his daughter is fare game. If she is gay and there is a big debate
about gay issues going on in the country and one of the people attempting to influence policy is her father. Then she is fair game. Just like it would be fair to trot her out if she did or was something they could use to their advantage.

3. Are you hung up?
This "controversy" proves how hung up people(especially on the right) are about even talking about homosexuality.

They say it was "tacky" and a "low blow" because of their own negative views and uncomfortable feelings.

It's called "projection" in psychology.

4. I'm already sick of this stupid bullshit about an "attack" on Mary Cheney.
Mary Cheney is a willing, active participant in the Bush/Cheney 2004 campaign. No one forced her to sit silently and seem to acquiesce in the homophobia of her father's campaign. No one pointed a gun to her head and, with her silence, tactitly support the Bush/Cheney horrible stance on gay issues (the 2004 GOP Platform on gay issues is one of the most hateful things I've read in a long, long time). And Mary Cheney...tacitly agrees with all of that. Silence is tacit approval.

As an out gay man, as far as I'm concerned, Mary Cheney is a traitor to the gay community. I'm tired of this coddling of poor Mary's feelings.

Kerry was exactly right in bringing up the issue of Mary Cheney...the hypocrisy of the Bush/Cheney campaign.

6. Absolutely in agreement
If Mary Cheney is uncomfortable about their opponents speaking of her admitted homosexuality, then she should speak out and not have "Mama Lynn" demean John Kerry and John Edwards. Neither of them said anything derogatory about Mary Cheney. In fact they supported her.

Yes, she is a traitor to the gay community as is Dick Cheney. He says one thing about giving rights to gays and lesbians, the only thing I've heard him say that I agree with, but yet he has to blindly support Bush's bashing of anyone who is different from "what" he says he is. I think he's a damn fool. I wonder how in the hell anyone in this country could support him.

8. Very, very well said Terry. The fact that Kerry/Edwards have more
compassion for the human that she is, makes me shake my head in wonder at the decision she has made.

15. In the words of a founding father
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the
animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms.
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you,
and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. Samuel Adams

the fact of it...so like taking medicine...they get it out there fast then, hope it never comes up again...Persons like Kerry accept it as a someone's personal life experience, it is not a big deal to be hidden under the rug...I thought it very appropriate and actually quite complimentary but if you want to pick a fight ...for fundies this is a playing field.

7. It should also be remembered that Mary Cheney made
a career out of being a lesbian. She was paid by Coors to promote their brew to gays and lesbians, using her sexual orientation as the basis for her employment. She was, in effect, a professional lesbian.

It's a little late for her parents to shove her back into the closet now that she's working for Daddy's campaign.

10. Republicans think the word "lesbian" is something to be ashamed of...
THAT's why they think it was an insult for John Kerry to call Mary Cheney what she is...a lesbian. That may make conservatives' skin crawl...it may make Lynne Cheney's skin crawl...but that's not John Kerry's fault.

I would send it, but I didn't hear the show, so I wouldn't really know exactly what to say.

16. You can hear the show at this link
http://wfan.com/imusinstantreplay/

It's chopped up, so you can hear the salient clips without listening to the whole thing.

12. Bush called Mary Cheney a SINNER during his Hate of the Union
Speech. Bush has created this monster and he still hasn't apologized to Dick, Lynn or Mary Cheney, so as Cheney would say, go fuck yourself.

14. This is the kind of hypocrisy that makes my skin crawl.
If Sinclair and Rush can stand behind "freedom of speech", what makes John Kerry exempt?

You'll hear Rush, Hannity and anyone else on the right, slamming Kerry on this issue all day long. We should call in and give them what for!
