What do you guys think of this...
Here is a statement made by Dick Cheney in 1992 when he was Sec. of Defense. His good buddy General Colin Powell is with him in this Senate Armed Services Committee Hearing:
“When General Powell and I appeared before you last year we proposed a multi-year 25 percent cut in our armed forces. By '95 those reductions would cut the active duty Army force structure by a third, the Air Force by a quarter, the Navy by approximately 20 percent, from 545 ships down to some 450. We had announced plans at that time to cancel over 100 weapons programs and to close or realign over 200 bases and installations worldwide. Those cuts that we submitted last year would reduce the US military to its lowest end strength since before the Korean War, cut the defense share of the federal budget to 18 percent, the lowest level since before Pearl Harbor, and cut the share of the gross national product going to defense to some three-and-a-half percent, roughly the level that you'd find back in the pre-Pearl Harbor period.”
The highlights: 1) "we proposed a multi-year 25 percent cut in our armed forces" 2) "cut the active duty Army force structure by a third" 3) cut the "the Air Force by a quarter" 4) cut the "Navy by approximately 20 percent" 5) "cancel over 100 weapons programs" 6) "reduce the US military to its lowest end strength since before the Korean War"
