Disc Found in Iraq Has U.S. Schools Info

By ELIZABETH WOLFE, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Education officials in six states were put on notice last month that a computer disc found in Iraq (news - web sites) over the summer contained photos, floor plans and other information about schools in their districts, two U.S. government officials said.

The downloaded data the U.S. military found in July — all publicly available on the Internet — included an Education Department report guiding schools on how to prepare and respond to a crisis, one official said Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The officials said it was unclear who downloaded the information and stressed they had no evidence of any specific threats involving the schools.

The districts mentioned were in California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey and Oregon, officials said, adding that the FBI (news - web sites) alerted local education and law enforcement authorities of the finding about three weeks ago.

2. Exactly my first thought when I read this.
How easy is it to burn a CD and then 'find' it there?

4. booga-booga
a famous campaign slogan from years ago stated "a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot..." (or words to that effect)

the bush 'slogan' for this year could very well be -- "a tax cut for every corporation and a terrorist under every bed..."

6. Hmm...
... publicly available on the internet. Guess it wasn't exactly privileged information that the U.S. was being careful about.

Government doesn't know who downloaded the information, no notion of any threats, but it was found in Iraq, eh?

Guess that means it had nothing to do with modeling better schools in Iraq on those here, and therefore must be related to terrorism here.

No matter that the Beslan attack was by Chechnyan rebels trying to pressure Russia, and that they have little interest in the U.S. Surely, al-Qaeda must be planning the same here.

Well, the raw fucking fact is that the FBI and the CIA have had three goddamned years since 9/11 to find terrorists remaining in this country, and they've haven't found a one. If terrorists are planning operations against schools, they have to be here now. But, no news about the CIA and FBI finding any at all.

Doesn't that sound just a wee bit odd?

7. TWO PLUS TWO EQUALS FIVE
"He set to work to exercise himself in crimestop. He presented himself with propositions -- 'the Party says the earth is flat', 'the party says that ice is heavier than water' -- and trained himself in not seeing or not understanding the arguments that contradicted them. It was not easy. It needed great powers of reasoning and improvisation. The arithmetical problems raised, for instance, by such a statement as 'two and two make five' were beyond his intellectual grasp. It needed also a sort of athleticism of mind, an ability at one moment to make the most delicate use of logic and at the next to be unconscious of the crudest logical errors. Stupidity was as necessary as intelligence, and as difficult to attain."

- 1984, George Orwell

9. The credibility of the Bushistas is rapidly eroding. Iraqi revelations
coming from the "U.S.Government" are doubly suspect.
